Thailand is one of the teams that announced the list of 26 players participating in the 2023 Asian Cup early. Notably, in the list of coach Masatada Ishii, fans did not see many key players.

The most regrettable absence is midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin. The player dubbed "Thai Messi" cannot participate in this tournament because he has not recovered from injury. The midfielder born in 1993 had a problem in the match against China in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in November. Since then, Chanathip Songkrasin has not been able to return.
Like Chanathip Songkrasin, another veteran player, Teerasil Dangda, could not join the Thai national team due to injury. Notably, the new coach of the Thai national team removed a series of veterans such as Thitiphan, Pokklaw Anan, Adisorn Promsak...

The Japanese coach only called up two naturalized players to the Thai team, Nicholas Mickelson and Elias Dolah. A series of other naturalized stars such as Kevin Deeromram, Manuel Bihr, James Beresford, Athit Berg, Ben Davis… were all absent.
Coach Masatada Ishii called up many players playing abroad such as Suphanat Mueanta (OH Leuven, Belgium), Nicholas Mickelson (OB, Denmark), Supachok Sarachat (Consadole Sapporo, Japan), Ekanit Panya (Urawa Reds, Japan)
Thailand recently suffered a heavy 0-5 defeat against Japan. At the 2023 Asian Cup, they are in the same group with Kyrgyzstan, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
