All wards and communes organize waste classification at source.
After the Lunar New Year, on February 5, Binh Phuoc 1 residential area, Thuan Phuoc ward (Hai Chau district) organized a collection of recyclable waste at the beginning of the new year and collected 95.5 kg of paper, 18 kg of aluminum cans, 32.5 kg of various types of plastic... All of the above recyclable waste was collected on-site by Da Nang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company with a total amount of 1.15 million VND. Nearly 100% of households in this residential area classify waste at source, so the amount of recyclable waste collected every week is quite large. Mr. Pham Cong Luong, representative of Binh Phuoc 1 residential area, said that in 2024, the total amount of money collected from selling recyclable waste was more than 40 million VND and the residential area allocated more than 33.6 million VND to support social security, environmental sanitation and activities of the residential area.
After Tet, women's associations in Son Tra district organized environmental cleaning, combined with collecting recyclable waste after sorting waste at households, service businesses... and separately collecting used batteries and other hazardous waste. Chairwoman of the Son Tra District Women's Union Thai Thi Phuong Lan said that in January 2025, women's associations maintained general cleaning activities on roads, residential areas and sorted waste at source, collected recyclable waste after sorting with a total amount of more than 29 million VND to support, implement social security and serve activities. In addition, the associations collected more than 31kg of used batteries to be treated separately according to regulations for hazardous waste. In 2025, women's unions at all levels in Son Tra district will continue to carry out environmental protection activities well, contributing to improving the quality of the natural environment in the district and building an environmental city.
It is known that one of the 31 criteria of the Project "Building Da Nang - Environmental City" in the period of 2021-2030 sets a target of 90% of households classifying waste at source by 2025. According to the Department of Sea, Islands and Environment of Da Nang (Department of Natural Resources and Environment), in recent years, departments, branches, units, localities, associations and unions in the city have actively implemented the above goal. According to statistics, all wards and communes in the city have organized waste classification and 97.38% of households have been propagandized, instructed and classified waste at source.
16 criteria have achieved the target of 2025
According to Mr. Vo Thanh, Deputy Head of the Da Nang Department of Sea, Islands and Environment, every year the City People's Committee issues a plan to implement more than 70 tasks of the Project "Building Da Nang - Environmental City" for the period 2021-2030. Da Nang has been evaluated and ranked as the leading city in the country for 3 consecutive years by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in implementing the Environmental Protection Performance Index (PEPI). The city has also won the "Smart, Green, Clean Environmental Management City" award 3 times by the Vietnam Software and Information Technology Services Association (VINASA) in 2021, 2023 and 2024.
During the period from 2021-2024, the implementation of the Project "Building Da Nang - Environmental City" for the period 2021-2030 has achieved many results with 16 criteria (out of 31 criteria) achieving the set goals by 2025, including major goals such as the city's air quality index (AQI) below the threshold of 100; 100% of the population is provided with clean water through a centralized water supply system; 100% of the rural population has access to hygienic water sources; 89.9% of the total volume of urban domestic wastewater is treated; 100% of industrial parks, industrial clusters and Da Nang High-Tech Park have centralized wastewater treatment systems that meet environmental technical standards; 100% of hazardous waste is collected and treated according to legal regulations on the total volume of hazardous waste generated...
In the city, there have been many movements, models and activities to protect the environment such as: launching campaigns to clean up the environment, classifying waste at source, planting and caring for trees..., with the active participation of the community and people, initially creating a rapid spread and achieving certain effectiveness. The work of conserving nature and forest biodiversity in the city is carried out very closely and synchronously...
To continue effectively implementing the Project "Building Da Nang - Environmental City" in the period of 2021-2030, the Department of Sea, Islands and Environment of Da Nang has proposed that the city organize a preliminary assessment of 5 years of project implementation in 2025 to evaluate and identify specific and key solutions and tasks to achieve the goals and criteria of the project set out in the period of 2026-2030. At the same time, continue to maintain the achieved results, strive to complete the tasks and goals set for the group of solutions to prevent and control environmental pollution; improve the environment, solve key and urgent environmental issues; conserve nature and biodiversity, promote environmental protection in resource exploitation and use; strengthen capacity, raise awareness of environmental protection, towards developing a circular economy, an ecological city...
