Vietnam's energy industry "attracts" investors
After restarting the nuclear power project in Ninh Thuan, Vietnam has received much attention from countries and businesses with strengths in energy.
On March 12, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet and Mr. Erkki Maillard, Director of International and Government Affairs, Advisor to the President of French Electricity Group EDF.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister asked EDF to continue expanding investment and converting to green and clean energy in Vietnam while supporting Vietnamese partners in developing nuclear power projects.
EDF has experience in implementing large-scale nuclear projects. 66 reactors were built in less than 30 years during the first phase of the French nuclear program and 70% of France's electricity is produced from these reactors.
Over the past 15 years, EDF has been building third-generation reactors, EPR pressurized water reactors. There are currently four third-generation reactors in operation in China (2), Finland (1) and France (1).
The reactors could be developed in either a 1,650 MW or 1,200 MW version. The trip to Vietnam is part of EDF’s ambitious effort to play a key role in the international nuclear energy renaissance.
