Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group proposes to invest in 2 projects at My Thuy Port Area

This afternoon, November 14, the Standing Committee of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee worked with the delegation of the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) on research and investment proposals in the province. At the meeting, TKV General Director Vu Anh Tuan said that, implementing the plan to supply coal to thermal power plants and following the direction of the Government, the group is currently importing coal from Laos to Vietnam.

Through research and field surveys, TKV wishes to research and invest in two warehouse projects in the My Thuy Port area to meet the demand for importing and blending coal for power plants. Project No. 1 is expected to require a land area of ​​10-15 hectares, with a capacity of 2-3 million tons/year; Project No. 2 is expected to require a land area of ​​about 30 hectares, with a capacity of 4-5 million tons/year.

Discussing some more contents related to the proposed project to be implemented at My Thuy Port Area, Chairman of the Board of Members of TKV Ngo Hoang Ngan said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade has consulted relevant ministries, departments, sectors, corporations and general companies on the draft agreement between Vietnam and the Lao Government on coal and electricity trading with a term of 10 years, expected to start from 2025.

Based on the plan for blending, processing and importing Lao coal to supply thermal power plants in 2025, if TKV carries out all coal blending activities to supply thermal power plants in the Central and Southern regions at the Central ports, the capacity through the port will need 7.8 million tons/year.

According to the Road Network Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, National Highway 15D from My Thuy seaport to La Lay International Border Gate is 78 km long, with 2 lanes. This is the shortest road route serving the transportation of import and export goods in general and coal in particular from Laos to Vietnam's seaport system. In addition to road transport, investors are also researching and proposing to build a conveyor system to transport coal from La Lay International Border Gate directly to My Thuy seaport.

With the above advantages, My Thuy port has the conditions to form a concentrated wharf infrastructure area of ​​TKV in the Central region to serve the business and coal processing. Therefore, it is recommended that the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, relevant departments and branches pay attention and create favorable conditions to support TKV and its member units in the process of studying, researching and implementing related procedures for the 2 projects expected to be invested in Quang Tri province.

Provincial Party Secretary and Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation Le Quang Tung highly appreciated the capacity and determination of TKV in researching and proposing investment projects at My Thuy Port. At the same time, he affirmed that Quang Tri province will actively accompany and create favorable conditions for investors to put the project into operation as soon as possible, contributing to boosting the province's budget revenue.

Investors are requested to speed up the completion of procedures as required; the Provincial People's Committee and relevant departments and branches actively support and guide investors to complete project documents, move towards implementing cooperation in the coming time, thereby opening up new opportunities in the relationship between Quang Tri province and TKV.
