Taking advantage of the weather, contractors at the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway construction site are concentrating machinery and human resources, speeding up construction to increase output and ensure progress according to the set plan.


Bustling noise of machines on the construction site

In early March, walking along the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway construction site (the entire route passes through Binh Dinh province), reporters recorded the urgent working atmosphere. After days of heavy rain, most contractors focused on human resources, machinery, and worked in "3 shifts" to speed up the project's progress.

Contractor Nhat Minh is concentrating machinery to complete the remaining 200m K98 section at package 12-XL of Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway.

In package 12-XL, Truong Thinh Group is in charge of nearly 6km (from Km64+220 - Km70+091). This section is behind schedule. The construction unit said that the reason was due to the slow procedures for granting the land mine and the section for making the public road when the land was handed over. It took the unit 1 year to construct the main route because the land mine was not assigned until February 2024. From the end of 2024 to the beginning of 2025, there was continuous rain in the area, making the construction difficult.

Continuously present at the construction site, Mr. Hoang Gia Dai, Head of the Executive Board of Truong Thinh Group at the 12-XL package, said that to make up for the slow progress, Truong Thinh Group is mobilizing hundreds of workers on the construction site, along with about 120 machines and equipment divided into 4 construction teams to focus on filling the remaining roadbed. Of which, there is about 1km left to fill the K95 foundation, and more than 3km left of K98. The contractor has also spread crushed stone aggregate and prepared CTB pavement.

"The unit aims to complete the foundation this March. We have come up with a specific construction plan, calculated in a rolling manner. The section that goes up to the top of K98 will immediately proceed to spread the foundation to cover the CTB. The contractor has also gathered stone materials at the foot of the project to prepare the crushed stone foundation layer, ensuring the construction of the next steps," Mr. Dai shared.

In this package, the subcontractor Nhat Minh Company Limited is undertaking the construction of 1.8km. The unit is concentrating about 60 workers on the construction site. Currently, this unit has paved 1.6km of CTB, and is focusing resources on filling the remaining 200m of foundation to reach the K98 peak, then proceeding to complete the CTB of the entire assigned volume.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Van, Deputy Director of Nhat Minh Company Limited, said that the rainy season after Tet was quite long, and in the past few days, the unit has only been able to fill the remaining 200m of foundation. The bridge and slope grass planting items are basically completed. The unit will proceed with asphalt paving in the next few days.

Phuc Loc Group Joint Stock Company paved layer 1 asphalt on many sections of the route.

At the section from Km50+465 - Km57+460 of package 12-XL, contractor Phuc Loc Group Joint Stock Company mobilized 200 workers divided into many teams to urgently asphalt the road surface and divided into construction of some other items such as planting grass on the slope, making protective fences, and casting hard median strips.

Mr. Mai Huy Cu, Deputy CEO of Phuc Loc Group Joint Stock Company, said that the unit has mobilized maximum human resources and machinery to urgently construct in the current sunny conditions. Of its workload, the unit has paved more than half of the first layer of asphalt. It is striving to complete the asphalt paving of the entire volume of the contractor's construction by the end of April.

Ensure construction quality

Although the construction volume is behind schedule, Truong Thinh Group is not in a hurry to meet the schedule and ignore the quality of the project. Mr. Hoang Gia Dai said that out of nearly 6km of the unit, 3.8km need to handle weak ground, and the time for monitoring subsidence is long. The unit will compensate for subsidence and monitor until the quality is guaranteed before proceeding to the next layers.

Construction Corporation of Transport Works 8 - CTCT (Cienco 8) is the contractor for the construction of 5km of the project. Currently, the contractor has paved the first layer of the road surface for 4km. To pave this surface, the unit needs about 20,000 m3 of stone. Currently, the unit has gathered 10,000 m3 to the construction site to ensure construction and is contracting to continue supplying. The unit has researched this source of stone from many sources and only selected quality stone from Khanh Hoa province.

The deck of Song Con Bridge - the longest river crossing bridge on Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon highway has been completed and is waiting to be paved.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Luan, Commander of Traffic Construction Corporation 8 - CTCT said that he initially planned to buy stone in Phu Yen but because the survey found that the quality was not guaranteed, he went all the way to Khanh Hoa to find a suitable stone source. Then, he transported it by sea to Quy Nhon port and then brought it to the foot of the construction site.

"Therefore, the cost of stone also increased by about 1.5 times. However, the quality of the project is the most important, so the unit is willing to accept it," said Mr. Luan.

According to Project Management Board 85, throughout the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon Project, contractors have mobilized 86 construction teams with 520 pieces of equipment and 790 personnel. By the end of February, some main items such as K95 embankment reached more than 95%; K98 road embankment reached 75%; Reinforced crushed stone mix reached 55%; C19 asphalt concrete reached more than 18%... Accumulated output to date reached more than 4,800 billion VND, reaching 63.44% of the contract, 0.08% faster than the approved schedule.

The investor said that for the sections that were behind schedule, the unit requested the contractor to increase machinery and human resources, take advantage of the weather, and work day and night to increase output and make up for the delay.
