DNVN - The Ministry of Transport has just issued a document requesting continued tightening of state management and increased control of airfares.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport requested specialized management agencies to strengthen control over airfares and review the price structure of airlines to ensure the harmony of interests between consumers and airlines. The Ministry also emphasized the need to detect and strictly handle cases of violations of price laws.
The Ministry of Transport also assigned agencies and units to report on the implementation status and send it to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam before October 7. The Civil Aviation Authority will compile the reports and submit them to the Ministry before October 21, to report to the Government leaders and the National Assembly Standing Committee.
According to the Ministry of Transport, from the beginning of 2024 until now, economy class ticket prices on many routes (including taxes and fees) of Vietnamese airlines have increased compared to the same period in 2023.
Through inspection, domestic airlines all sell tickets within the domestic passenger transport service price range as prescribed. The increase in airfares is due to market supply and demand factors, especially the decrease in the size of the operating fleet, the high demand for travel during holidays and Tet, and fluctuations in fuel prices as well as foreign exchange rates.
In this situation, the Ministry of Transport is synchronously implementing measures to reduce pressure on airfares, ensure stability of the air transport force and balance the load on domestic and international routes. Some key solutions include creating conditions for airlines to lease more aircraft, adjust operating hours and increase night flights, thereby compensating for the load shortage caused by the decline in the fleet.
In addition, the Ministry continues to monitor price declaration, price posting, and public information on ticket prices in accordance with legal regulations. The Ministry also recommends that passengers plan to book tickets early to have more options and enjoy appropriate ticket prices.
