Hanoi logistics market is large in scale.

On January 6, Hanoi Logistics Association (HNLA) held the 2023 Year-end Conference and the 1st Anniversary of HNLA.

2023 is a year with many challenges for the Vietnamese economy in general and the logistics industry in particular. In this situation, the Hanoi Logistics Association has adapted and been proactive in its activities, focusing on connecting members within the Association, connecting the Association with partners inside and outside the industry to create more business opportunities and share experiences in overcoming difficulties and challenges for members.

Notably, the Association has contributed to the development of logistics policies and planning, especially, giving comments on the Draft plan for developing logistics services in Hanoi in 2023; coordinating with the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade to organize the Workshop "Logistics promotes industry linkages and enhances value chains"; organizing 01 working session with the Customs agency with the content "Facilitating businesses to carry out import and export activities in the area" to support members of the Hanoi Logistics Association in the process of performing services related to customs procedures...

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Tran Duc Nghia, Hanoi Logistics Association, said that in the context of the logistics market facing many difficulties and declining output, the Association identified one of the key tasks as creating connection opportunities to promote trade, learning, and experience sharing between members of the Association and related parties. The Association has organized many multi-dimensional exchange and connection activities with state management agencies, logistics associations, other industry associations, and foreign partners.

According to Mr. Tran Duc Nghia, Hanoi is the economic and political center of the North and the whole country. Regarding industry, Hanoi currently has 9 operating industrial parks, more than 100 industrial clusters have been and are being formed.

In terms of commerce, Hanoi has nearly 150 supermarkets, 454 markets and more than 10,000 convenience stores serving the daily needs of about 8 million urban residents. These figures show that logistics activities are taking place in Hanoi at a level that is superior to other localities in the North and nationwide.

Hanoi is also the transportation center of the country with about 40% of the volume of goods circulating through the area from other localities through 4/5 modes of transport. This reality shows that logistics policies in Hanoi will impact and influence national logistics costs.

Hanoi's economic context is both an opportunity and a challenge for Hanoi logistics enterprises. "Operating in a large-scale logistics market, ranked second after Ho Chi Minh City, brings many advantages for Hanoi logistics enterprises to develop, promoting the development of the industry as well as the Hanoi Logistics Association," said Mr. Tran Duc Nghia.

Be flexible and prepare longer-term solutions

Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that the newly established Hanoi Logistics Association has gone through a very difficult year, because in 2023, the economy in general, as well as production, consumption, trade, import-export and logistics activities faced many challenges.

In fact, 2023 is considered an unprecedentedly difficult year, much more difficult than the Covid-19 pandemic. In such a situation, businesses and associations have made great efforts, maintained the spirit of overcoming difficulties and welcomed and waited for more opportunities from 2024.

At the conference, experts said that the context in 2024 may still have potential challenges, but the Vietnamese economy still has the driving forces to create growth momentum for 2024 and the following years.

Specifically, the Fed's temporary suspension of interest rate hikes and stable Fed policy will help the US economy recover, and will also have a positive impact on Vietnam's main export markets.

Foreign investment in Vietnam will grow in 2023 and continue to do so, creating a foundation for growth in the following years. Monetary policies such as interest rate cuts and debt restructuring are likely to continue to be applied in 2024, easing difficulties and creating momentum for business recovery.

However, for the logistics industry, 2024 may see a disruption in international shipping activities due to political tensions, at least in the early stages of the year. This is a huge challenge for both logistics businesses and import-export businesses in Vietnam and requires businesses to be flexible in their responses, while also preparing for longer-term solutions.

Hanoi Logistics Association determined that in 2024, it will continue to play an active role in contributing opinions on policies affecting the industry's operations and logistics planning issues in the capital; strengthening the extensive cooperative relationship with partners that the Association established in 2023.

In addition, expand connections with other industry associations in depth and expand connections with foreign logistics partners including important markets such as China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Europe...

Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Thuy, Executive Director of the Office of Private Economic Development Research under the Prime Minister's Advisory Council (Committee IV) said that the logistics industry is like a barometer of the economy, because the indicators are similar to the overall indicators of the economy.

Ms. Thuy suggested that HNLA continue to enhance the role of the Association (connecting, providing information, recommending policies) to overcome the current difficult period; support businesses to learn and adapt to green transformation; identify the focus of business support in 2024, focusing on solving the difficulties that businesses have revealed...
