On June 29, the delegation of Ho Chi Minh City led by Politburo member and Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen attended the inauguration ceremony of the statue of President Ho Chi Minh and had a working session with Governor of St. Petersburg, Russia, Alesander Beglov, and Chairman of the Legislative Council of St. Petersburg, Alexander Belsky.
Also attending the meeting were President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Phuong Nga and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi.
Speaking at the meeting, Governor Alesander Beglov expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Ho Chi Minh City delegation to St. Petersburg.
Mr. Beglov said that all stages have been completed to inaugurate the statue of President Ho Chi Minh on June 30, the 100th anniversary of his first arrival in Petrograd (now St. Petersburg) to find a way to free the people from colonialism and lay the foundation for a strong and prosperous Vietnam today.
Governor Beglov also thanked the Vietnamese Embassy in the Russian Federation, Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi, the Association of Vietnamese in the Russian Federation, large and medium-sized Vietnamese enterprises and Chairman of Golden Age Group Duong Chi Kien, for their effective efforts to help complete all the statue erection work on time.
Governor Beglov affirmed that the monument will become a symbol of the long-lasting and unshakable friendship between the Russian Federation and Vietnam, and hoped that there would soon be a monument commemorating Soviet experts in Vietnam, who in difficult times stood shoulder to shoulder for Vietnam's independence.
Mr. Beglov also said that the city government is moving towards updating its cooperation roadmap with Ho Chi Minh City, while St. Petersburg's Pulkovo airport operator is promoting the opening of direct flights to Vietnam to help increase the flow of mutual tourists and open up new business opportunities.
For his part, Politburo member and Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen expressed his pleasure to visit St. Petersburg, on the occasion of the city's 320th anniversary.
Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen was pleased to see that the Vietnam-Russia friendship and cooperation are continuously developing, with regular high-level visits maintained, and the friendship and cooperation between the two cities are actively deployed.
The Secretary of the City Party Committee hopes that St. Petersburg will share its experience in the fields of cybersecurity capacity building, digital platform application, and digital technology. Ho Chi Minh City is ready to promote cooperation activities, enhance understanding and closeness between the two cities.
On this occasion, Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen respectfully thanked the Russian government and people, especially the government and people of St. Petersburg, for always showing respect and love for Uncle Ho; considering this a noble symbol, a beautiful gesture in the cooperative relationship, deepening the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Also during the working session, Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen and Governor Beglov witnessed the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between Can Gio district and Kronstadt district of St. Petersburg.
Previously, Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen and the delegation visited the exhibition about Uncle Ho of the St. Petersburg Archives Committee and visited the office of leader Vladimir Ilich Lenin at the Smolny Palace.

On the same evening, Governor Beglov hosted a reception for Vietnamese guests. During the event, Governor Beglov awarded commemorative medals of 350 years of Peter the Great to two individuals and certificates of merit to four Vietnamese individuals who made great contributions to the erection of the statue of Vietnam's first President Ho Chi Minh in St. Petersburg.
Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 groups and 6 individuals who made great contributions to the construction of the statue of Uncle Ho in St. Petersburg.
Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi awarded certificates of merit from the Vietnamese Foreign Minister to 1 group and 3 individuals with outstanding achievements in promoting, implementing and building the Ho Chi Minh monument in St. Petersburg.
VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga awarded the Medal "For Peace and Friendship among Nations" to two officials of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the St. Petersburg City Government.
In particular, on behalf of the Vietnamese Association in Russia, Chairman of the Association Mr. Do Xuan Hoang presented the Archives of the Central Office of the Communist Party of Vietnam with the original copy of the newspaper "Truth" No. 22, published on January 27, 1924, which included an article farewelling leader VI Lenin by the young revolutionary Nguyen Ai Quoc with the title "Lenin and the colonial peoples".
