Detained suspect who stole mirrors from 21 cars, causing public panic

On the afternoon of February 17, information from Ha Long City Police said that this unit is temporarily detaining Pham Trong Thanh (30 years old, residing in area 4D, Hong Hai Ward, Ha Long City) to investigate the act of stealing car mirrors, causing public panic.

Earlier that morning, Hong Hai Ward Police (Ha Long City) received reports from 17 vehicle owners about the theft of rearview mirrors while parking their cars on Nguyen Van Cu Street (Ha Long City). Upon verifying the scene, the police discovered that 21 vehicles had their rearview mirrors stolen, with a total loss of about 38 million VND.

Through professional measures, Ha Long City Police discovered the suspect was Pham Trong Thanh. At the police station, Thanh confessed that at around 3 a.m. on February 17, he stole the mirrors of the 21 cars above.

21 cars had their rearview mirrors stolen

Notably, during the process of working with the authorities, Pham Trong Thanh's family presented a number of documents stating that the suspect suffered from a mental disorder and was treated at the hospital from 2017 to 2020. Up to now, the family has bought medicine for Thanh to treat at home.

Ha Long City Police are coordinating with Ha Long City People's Procuracy to examine the scene and consolidate the case file to handle Pham Trong Thanh in accordance with the law.
