Fire tests gold, hardship tests start-ups
As one of the four faces of the talk show Green Startup Orientation at Long Thanh Golf Course, Mr. Nguyen Tu Tin - founder, CEO of Pho'S - was busy with his staff setting up a small pho counter serving Ngoc Linh ginseng pho right in the event hall before appearing on stage to tell the story of Pho'S.
"My family has been cooking pho for three generations. Taking advantage of my family's strengths, I started selling a new product, Ngoc Linh ginseng pho, in 2019. Up to now, I have a chain of over 10 stores" - Mr. Tu Tin's brief introduction about Pho'S.
It's easy to feel like he has a good starting foundation and everything is on the rise. But no, it's been a long journey for Tu Tin and his brother.
"Vietnamese Pho is really strong. There is a Pho restaurant every 2km, so to survive we had to find a new way. In 2022, we established Pho'S in the most professional franchise direction from product packaging, human resources, and operations.
After two years of many difficulties in the startup process, we have achieved certain achievements with 3 franchise stores in China. Next year, we plan to have 3 stores in the Philippines," Mr. Tu Tin shared.

Many faces that have been highly appreciated through the seasons of Tuoi Tre Start-up Award were present at the talk show Green Startup Orientation. Among them, there are start-ups that have "tested the waters" through the COVID-19 pandemic to continue their journey.
Pho'S's difficulties are also the difficulties of MimosaTek, Plastic People and AirX.
Having won the special prize of Tuoi Tre Start-up Award 2020, going through the difficult period of COVID-19, Mr. Nguyen Khac Minh Tri - founder of MimosaTek - said that the process of bringing technology and IoT into agricultural production is a journey that takes a lot of time.
"After Tuoi Tre Start-up Award 2020 until now, we have solved the problem of how to have a reasonable business model, so we have made adjustments. The business model really determines 50% of the success of a start-up," said Mr. Tri.

As a start-up that recreates products from plastic waste, Nano Morante - co-founder of Plastic People (Tuoi Tre Green Start-up Award 2023) - said the most important thing for a start-up is to adapt to reality and have an effective business model.
Meanwhile, participating in this year's program as a brand new start-up, Bui Phuong Thao - director of sustainable development of AirX - said that after 2 years of research and exploration, at the beginning of this year the company had a bioplastic product to sell on the market.
"The company currently has revenue from selling bioplastic products. But to expand the scale, it needs a huge amount of capital," Phuong Thao added.

Before that, opening this talk show, journalist Tran Xuan Toan - deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper - shared a good quote from a golfer and full of meaning for start-ups.
That is, "with golf, always think about the next shot, don't let regret distract you. Starting a business will have many stumbles and failures. But young people will continue to stand up and move forward."
This is also the reason why over the past 5 years, the Tuoi Tre Start-up Award organizing committee has persevered with this program, creating connections between entrepreneurs and the start-up community.

Speaking more about the topic of green startups, Ms. Le Thi Tuong Vy - Deputy Director of the Center for Supporting Youth Startups (BSSC) - said that green startups must be a long-term trend.
The long-term, according to Ms. Tuong Vy, is reflected in the fact that startups like MimosaTek have returned to the program and continued to develop. In a way, green startups are enjoying "heavenly time, favorable location, and harmony between people".
As evidence, Ms. Vy commented: "Many consumers are tending to choose green products, creating a green consumer ecosystem. Investors are also very interested in green startups and the State's policies are creating motivation for green startups."
