The face of a 300,000-year-old Homo sapiens has been reconstructed by Brazilian graphic artist Cicero Moraes.

The result comes from scientists reconstructing the oldest known Homo sapiens skull, which was missing its lower jaw when it was discovered in Morocco in 2017.

The team created a digital scan of the skull and then used the scan along with soft tissue and skin to reconstruct it.

Professor Jean-Jacques Hublin, of the Max Planck Institute (Germany) and leader of the new study, said the skull proves Homo sapiens appeared 100,000 years earlier than thought and migrated out of Africa before previous evidence was presented.
