Developing a worthy night-time economy

According to the Department of Tourism , the project has solved the problem of where tourists to Da Nang go and what to experience at night; in which, many night tourism products and services create diversity, uniqueness, and difference, are highly appreciated by locals and tourists, helping to increase the length of stay of visitors and increase revenue.

“From the project, many night tourism products were formed such as the pilot model of My An night beach, An Thuong tourist street, Bach Dang walking street, night tourism services at the east bank park at the foot of Nguyen Van Troi bridge and Nguyen Van Troi walking bridge, night markets, art shows; Han River night tour; water music show at September 2 Square; Dragon Bridge breathing fire and water program. At the same time, experience programs, events, night festivals at tourist areas, destinations and high-class resorts and hotels such as Da Nang Downtown Complex, Sunworld Ba Na Hills (Ba Na By Night), Mikazuki ..., night activities on both banks of the Han River and along the vibrant and attractive coastline.

Services, entertainment venues, cuisine , health care - beauty, specialized night food streets Pham Hong Thai, Le Thanh Nghi, Vo Nguyen Giap, commercial centers... create the brand and destination for tourists. The city also organizes large-scale, unique cultural and night tourism events and festivals such as the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, the Enjoy Da Nang Festival, the opening program of the beach tourism season...", Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the Department of Tourism shared.

However, the exploitation and development of the night-time economy to serve tourists is still not commensurate with the city's tourism. According to the Department of Tourism, the development of the night-time economy in Da Nang still has some difficulties such as the lack of a policy framework to manage and encourage the development of the night-time economy; some key projects to create momentum for the development of the night-time economy have not been completed; service areas serving the night-time economy are still interspersed with residential areas...

To solve this problem, the city continues to implement solutions to promote the development of night tourism products. That is, planning to identify areas for night economic development in the tourism sector; continuing to effectively organize existing night tourism products, at the same time, investing in upgrading walking streets, night markets, food streets; night tourism services on Nguyen Van Troi bridge and the park on the east bank of Nguyen Van Troi bridge; organizing large-scale, unique events and festivals at night with the highlight being the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, events and festivals on both banks of the Han River...

The Department of Tourism is researching and organizing new night tours with unique and attractive cultural values; encouraging tourist areas to innovate and organize unique night products and services... The Department of Tourism and related departments, agencies and sectors are actively supporting businesses and investors to speed up investment in projects to create entertainment tourism products, large-scale, high-class theme parks serving both day and night; investing in forming free trade zones with high-end trade and service activities. Localities are actively coordinating with related departments, agencies and sectors to promote night-time economic development projects in the area.

Mr. Nguyen Hoa, Chairman of Ngu Hanh Son District People's Committee, said that the City People's Committee has just approved the investment policy for the An Thuong Tourist Area project (phase 2) with an investment of more than 100 billion VND. In phase 2 of the project, in addition to renovating sidewalks and trees on Chau Thi Vinh Te, Hoang Ke Viem, Ngo Thi Si, Mai Thuc Lan streets; expanding some streets, lighting, and decorative electricity, the An Thuong Tourist Area will have a central square with a water music stage.

“The An Thuong Tourist Area Project Phase 1, after coming into operation, has created a unique tourism product, attracting tourists, especially international tourists staying here in large numbers. Phase 2 of the project expands the space, upgrades the technical infrastructure on some connecting routes in sync with phase 1. After completion, this place will organize cultural activities, entertainment and shopping places day and night for tourists in the area,” said Mr. Hoa.

Similarly, developing the night economy to serve tourism in Hai Chau district is given special attention. Mr. Truong Thanh Dung, Vice Chairman of Hai Chau District People's Committee, said that the district is expected to expand the space of Bach Dang walking street to the south to Asia Park; forming a night market on Tran Van Tru street. At the same time, developing the night economy (food and beverage services, shopping...) on Le Hong Phong, Thai Phien, Tran Quoc Toan, Hoang Van Thu streets; including banning vehicles in the evening on Le Hong Phong street.

“Bach Dang walking street has now created a space for relaxation, entertainment and recreation with a series of cultural and artistic events taking place here, food and beverage services are just an accompanying service for residents and tourists. With the formation of food and beverage and shopping service routes in the coming time, we expect to promote the development of the night economy in the area, creating a vibrant nightlife for the city, contributing to attracting tourists”, Mr. Dung informed.
