With more than three weeks left until Lunar New Year, demand for Tet flowers is still quiet, even among wholesale buyers, so many gardeners have proactively livestreamed to sell their products and said they will invest heavily in this sales channel in the near future.

Having been in the profession for many years, Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, owner of Ngoc Hien orchid garden (Thu Duc city, Ho Chi Minh city), said that although traders have placed deposits to buy dendro and mokara orchids to sell for Tet, the number has increased compared to before, but it is still quite low compared to the same period in previous years, possibly down about 40%.
"Dendro orchids are usually in demand earlier, around mid-December, when customers place orders after knowing the quality of the flowers. On the contrary, mokara orchids are often purchased more near Tet. But in general, the purchasing power of the two main orchid types in Ho Chi Minh City this year is slow," Mr. Hien worried, saying that although output has decreased, gardeners still maintain wholesale prices as usual.
Mr. Pham Anh Dung, Chairman of Cu Chi Ornamental Plants Association (HCMC), confirmed that purchasing power for locally grown orchids such as dendro, mokara, and pearl orchids... is quite slow compared to previous years.
"Most of the wholesale customers are traders, but this year, due to concerns about low purchasing power, they did not dare to order early or order in large quantities. Hopefully, near Tet, demand will improve," said Mr. Dung, affirming that prices of orchids will hardly increase during this year's Tet season (except for Phalaenopsis orchids).
Many gardeners who grow groundcover flowers such as chrysanthemums, cockscombs, marigolds, etc. are in the same situation when the number of wholesale customers who usually proactively contact them to inquire and make early deposits is still quite quiet. In addition, farmers are under pressure when production costs have increased by about 10% compared to last year, but the selling price has not dared to increase, and there is even a risk of decreasing if there are few customers.
To avoid the risk of "holding goods", many garden owners choose to promote the sale of flowers and ornamental plants for Tet on social networking platforms such as TikTok, Zalo, Facebook... and have attracted a large number of interested customers to choose to buy. In particular, the types of plants posted for sale are mainly apricot, peach, kumquat, orchids, and chrysanthemums.
Continuously posting videos and livestreaming to sell ornamental plants, a representative of Bonsai Nghia garden (Ben Tre) said that the garden has tens of thousands of pots of chrysanthemums for Tet season, so they increased online sales to quickly get more customers.
Accordingly, the selling price is 250,000 VND/pot with a canopy of about 1m, 450,000 VND/two pots, including shipping fee. In addition, the unit sells a large quantity of yellow apricot flowers with prices ranging from several hundred thousand to several million VND/tree via online channels and delivers nationwide.
"Around January 15, the garden will stop selling retail, and if wholesale customers want to buy, they have to deposit early so that the garden can choose the plants to keep. However, you should prioritize buying early because at the end of the season, whatever is left is usually sold," he said.
According to Mr. Trinh Thanh Hien (Hanoi, specializing in selling peach blossoms), due to slow direct purchasing power, he focuses on selling through online channels. However, the demand is still not high, retail customers only account for 10 - 20%, so he will continue to increase sales in the near future.
"Small trees costing from 500,000 VND to 1 million VND are relatively easy to sell. Buyers can send them by post or through a shipping unit. Customers who buy in large quantities or large trees can rent a private car or combine cars to deliver them to their destination. They can still be sold nationwide," said Mr. Hien.
In Binh Loi apricot village (Binh Chanh district), considered the largest in Ho Chi Minh City, many gardeners also take advantage of social media platforms, especially livestreaming, to promote and sell Tet apricot flowers.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre, the owner of an apricot garden here said that many gardeners are supported by the agricultural sector to livestream on social media platforms, especially Facebook and TikTok, so that they can sell to more customers. In addition, many businesses also cooperate with farmers to conveniently deliver Tet apricot flowers to customers.
