The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just issued a document requesting the People's Committees of provinces and cities to strengthen the management of quarantine and transportation, control animal slaughter, ensure veterinary hygiene, in which priority is given to perfecting the grassroots veterinary system.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, up to now, the country has 463 centralized animal slaughterhouses and over 24,000 small-scale establishments, but the facilities have not yet ensured strict compliance with legal regulations; inspection, examination, handling of violations and coordination between the veterinary sector and related sectors in many localities are still not good.
Therefore, the Ministry recommends that localities urgently re-establish district-level veterinary stations under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine; strengthen the capacity of the veterinary system, promptly complete and strengthen the capacity of the veterinary system at all levels according to regulations; recommend that provinces and cities promptly issue plans and have a roadmap to build a network of centralized animal slaughterhouses according to the provisions of the Law on Veterinary Medicine and the Law on Planning; issue policies to call for and encourage investment in building centralized slaughterhouses.
