Digital transformation in the cultural field, including the digitization of cultural heritage, is considered by the Ninh Binh Department of Culture and Sports as an optimal solution to store, manage, preserve, exploit, promote, and enhance the value of heritage in a sustainable manner as well as bring new forms of tourism to the community.

Enhance the value of heritage

The Hoa Lu Ancient Capital Historical and Cultural Relics Conservation Center is located in the core area of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, and is currently preserving and storing about 1,000 artifacts, including 5 national treasures. Ms. Le Thi Bich Thuc, Deputy Director of the Center, said: Implementing the Heritage Digitization Program, the Center has applied VR360 virtual reality technology, using a 3D perspective projection system in the "Dinh-Tien Le Dynasty Cultural Heritage" Exhibition House area to serve the display and promotion of the value of relics and heritage to visitors.

This is a system that uses both documents and relics at the same time, clearly showing the history and unique cultural features of Dai Co Viet State. Each relic, document and sand table model displayed here is associated with stories about the history and culture of the Dinh-Tien Le period. 3D perspective uses lighting techniques, projection mapping technology on the sand table, and media projection on the wall. The main content is to introduce the historical and cultural relic of Hoa Lu Ancient Capital in the space of Trang An World Cultural and Natural Heritage in Ninh Binh, contributing to changing the method of promoting tourism images, enhancing the value of relics and heritage.

In addition, the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital Historical and Cultural Relics Conservation Center has coordinated with relevant units to promote the digitization of artifacts. Artifacts are inventoried, scientifically documented, and software is developed to promote them on Smart Tourism Portals. When artifacts are digitized, they can be quickly promoted to domestic and international tourists, helping to further promote the value of the heritage.

Mr. Hoang Le Nam, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: This time coming to the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital National Special Relic Site, I learned about the heritage in digital space, with many images and information introducing the Relic Site that were very attractive and impressive. In particular, I can scan the QR code to view and listen to the explanations about the relic on the phone screen, which is very convenient and suitable for tourists during the visit.

Journey to "revive" historical and cultural relics

Ninh Binh has 1,821 relics and scenic spots, including 3 special national relics, 78 national-level relics, 324 provincial-level relics, 5 national treasures and 393 inventoried intangible cultural heritages... Pursuant to Decision No. 2026/QDTTg dated December 2, 2021 of the Prime Minister approving the Program on Digitization of Vietnamese Cultural Heritage for the period 2021-2030; Resolution No. 01-NQ/TU dated April 22, 2021 of the Provincial Party Committee on building e-government, digital transformation to 2025, orientation to 2030 and the Plans of the Provincial People's Committee on developing digital government, digital transformation and ensuring network information security, the Department of Culture and Sports has developed Plan No. 1008/KH-SVHTT dated August 2, 2021 on building e-government, digital transformation to 2025, orientation to 2030.

Comrade Vu Thanh Lich, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, said: Implementing the Program to digitize Vietnamese cultural heritage in the period of 2021-2030, the Department of Culture and Sports has deployed the construction of an information management system and created a database of some typical artifacts to serve the work of preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage for the Provincial Museum. Complete the outline and detailed estimate for the implementation of the digitization task, create a database of tangible and intangible cultural heritage in the province. Propagandize, organize, and guide localities and units on the program and activities of digitizing cultural heritage.

Recognizing the importance of digital transformation of heritage, heritage owners have initially made efforts to access new technological achievements to create added value for heritage. Currently, Ninh Binh Provincial Museum has digitized 9,898 artifacts and artifact records accompanying the artifacts; implemented 3D technology digitization for 50 typical artifacts; managed and exploited information on artifact management software to serve conservation work, introduce to visitors in digital space; applied QR code scanning to learn about heritage...

In the coming time, the Department of Culture and Sports will continue to do a good job of advising the Provincial People's Committee to direct departments, branches and localities to promote the synchronous digitization of tangible and intangible cultural heritages to achieve the common goal of the Program on Digitization of Vietnamese Cultural Heritage for the period 2021-2030. Urgently complete the outline and detailed estimate for the implementation of the digitization task, create a database on tangible and intangible cultural heritages in the province. Propagate and disseminate programs and projects on digital transformation on mass media. At the same time, continue to inventory heritages and relics in the province, update the system of heritages and relics into the industry's management software, promote on the province's Smart Tourism Portal to build a national database system on cultural heritage on a unified digital technology platform, serving the work of archiving, managing, researching, preserving, exploiting, promoting heritage, promoting sustainable tourism development.

The province also continues to improve the quality of human resources; invests in regular funding and ensures the construction and operation of digital storage systems as well as specialized machinery and equipment systems serving the digitization of heritage.
