"2, 3 days before the competition, I lost my appetite and sleep. I couldn't even go to the toilet. On the first day of the match, I still couldn't eat. But looking at my father, who came to the stadium to cheer for me, I had more motivation," the 32nd SEA Games champion Le Khanh Hung shared his feelings at the celebration ceremony of the Vietnamese golf team today, May 21, after the medals won in Cambodia.
The Vietnam national golf team made history for Vietnamese golf at the recent 32nd SEA Games, when Le Khanh Hung won the gold medal in the men's individual event, Nguyen Anh Minh won the bronze medal in the men's individual event and the silver medal in the men's team event. These are the first medals in the history of Vietnamese golf at the SEA Games arena.
Vietnam golf team members receive awards
Despite making his name in the history of Vietnamese golf, Le Khanh Hung is very modest. The 15-year-old golfer shared: "I have had a lot of luck throughout the journey, because many strong golfers in this tournament did not play to their true form."
Answering Thanh Nien 's question about his future plans, Le Khanh Hung revealed: "I received a scholarship from a high school in Florida (USA) worth 100,000 USD. I will study high school in the US and plan to study and practice at a golf academy here." The Vietnamese golfer hopes to improve his skills and be able to participate in bigger tournaments in the future. When asked about which famous person he wants to meet the most, Le Khanh Hung expressed his desire to meet legendary American golfer Tiger Woods and invite him to Vietnam to enjoy Hue beef noodle soup.
Also at the celebration ceremony, to encourage and recognize the team's achievements at the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnam Golf Association and a number of sponsors awarded prizes and certificates of merit to the team and some members. In particular, the Vietnam Golf Association awarded 50 million VND and a certificate of merit to athlete Le Khanh Hung who won the gold medal in the men's individual event, 20 million VND and a certificate of merit to athlete Nguyen Anh Minh who won the bronze medal in the men's individual event; 50 million VND and a certificate of merit to the men's team who won the silver medal in the men's team event, and 30 million VND and a certificate of merit to the coaching staff of the Vietnam golf team.
Le Khanh Hung and Nguyen Anh Minh, two golfers who won medals in the individual event, were also awarded an additional 200 million VND in cash and 2 10-year membership cards to 4 FLC golf courses. This is an encouragement for the Vietnamese golf team athletes in general and the Vietnamese golf movement in particular to develop further.
