The increase in fishing output is due to the increased capacity of fishing vessels. Currently, the whole province has 1,966 fishing vessels of 6m or more that have been registered and updated to the VNfishbase software of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. Activities of the Department of Sea and Fisheries such as coordinating with coastal localities to organize propaganda, mobilize, and guide procedures on registration, inspection, and issuance of fishing licenses create a solid legal corridor for ship owners to go to sea to catch more seafood. To date, 100% of fishing vessels have been newly granted or re-granted licenses; 83/86 operating fishing vessels have installed voyage monitoring devices.
Along with that, the Department of Sea and Fisheries has done a good job of forecasting fishing grounds to help fishing fleets effectively. In recent years, due to the decrease in aquatic resources, the cost of going to sea has increased, and the traditional experience of fishermen has not been effective. In this reality, in addition to investing in increasing production capacity such as equipping new machinery, technology equipment and improving labor skills, fishing ground forecast information has helped fishermen to be more convenient in fishing, contributing to reducing input costs and improving exploitation efficiency in sea areas.
According to the Department of Sea and Fisheries, the work of forecasting fishing grounds for exploiting marine resources is regularly updated, and forecasting models are increasingly improved and enhanced in quality. The issuance of bulletins forecasting seasonal and monthly fishing grounds for purse seine, gillnet, pelagic fishing... in the sea areas of the North, Central, South Central, and Southwest on mass media with high accuracy has also contributed to the increase in fishing output in the first quarter.
Aquaculture continued to develop and grow well. Estimated output reached more than 1,880 tons, up 8.4% over the same period, focusing on high-value and effective products, such as: 511 tons of commercial shrimp; 599 tons of commercial snails; 495 tons of oysters, crabs; 36 tons of lobsters; 47.5 tons of saltwater fish on land; 109 tons of saltwater fish at sea; 82.6 tons of freshwater fish. Shrimp seed production continued to promote brand effectiveness, with output reaching 12,000 million, up 16.3%, creating a production value of 416 billion VND, up 16.04% over the same period.
In the second quarter of 2025, the agricultural sector aims to increase the value of aquatic product production by 2.3%. To achieve the target, the sector focuses on solutions to direct the effective exploitation of the Southern fish crop; effectively implement policies to support fishermen in in-depth investment to exploit offshore areas for higher economic efficiency. Direct and guide aquaculture according to good production processes, monitor the environment associated with close supervision of aquaculture production activities to ensure high-quality, disease-free breeds, and supply to farming areas inside and outside the province. Focus on effectively implementing the deep-water marine aquaculture project applying high technology.
