New book reveals secret documents related to the Republic of Vietnam

Half a century has passed since the historic noon of April 30, 1975, but the events that occurred at that time are still deeply imprinted in the hearts of the Vietnamese people, the people of the world as well as in the American political world.

In order to help readers research and understand more deeply the developments within the US political world and the Republic of Vietnam government when facing the stormy attacks of our army and people, the Truth National Political Publishing House in collaboration with the Oriental Development Research Institute under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations published the book "The Final Minutes at the White House: The Minutes of the Fall of the Republic of Vietnam" translated by Ngo Bac.

The book consists of two parts: Part I includes original top secret documents declassified by the United States in 2015, with content revolving around the calculations, decisions and actions of the leaders of the US war machine during the final days of the collapse of the Saigon government.

These are full-text translations of the minutes of the meetings of the US National Security Council chaired by US President Gerald Ford; summaries, memoranda, reports on the situation in Vietnam; transcripts of phone calls between President Ford and the US Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense...

Part II includes unforgettable articles and memoirs of several high-ranking American generals who were directly present and commanded the evacuation during the final hours of the collapse of the Republic of Vietnam.

There is a lot of information revealed for the first time through these articles, which will help readers see the whole picture of the chaos of the American evacuation, as well as the humiliating defeat of the US army in the war of aggression in Vietnam...

According to the book introduction, the translated and published documents reflect the views, perceptions and activities of American politicians on the war. The translated documents are faithful to the original and do not represent the views of the publisher.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), the Truth National Political Publishing House also published the book "Letter to the South" by General Secretary Le Duan.

The book collects a number of letters and telegrams from General Secretary Le Duan to leaders in the southern battlefields during the resistance war against the US to save the country from 1961 to 1975.

The book's content vividly reflects the revolutionary practice and the Party Central Committee's skillful and in-depth leadership of the Southern revolution, from the practice of directing the battlefields, from assessing the situation to proposing revolutionary policies, measures and methods.

According to information from the Truth National Political Publishing House, these two works authentically recreate the nation's resistance war for independence from two perspectives - one from the guiding will of the Vietnamese revolutionary leaders, one from the center of American power, while helping today's generation have a comprehensive view of the event of April 30, 1975.

The publication of the two books on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the country’s reunification is an opportunity to look back at the past, draw valuable historical lessons and strengthen national pride. This is also an opportunity for the younger generation to access important documents, thereby better understanding the value of peace, independence and responsibility in the cause of building and defending the country today./.
