80 years of experience still holds true

“Digital Popular Education” is a national training platform managed and operated by the Ministry of Public Security and the University of Science and Technology; connecting with other digital platforms to effectively serve the national digital transformation. This is an important task to concretize the guidelines and policies of Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation (S&T); responding to the direction of General Secretary To Lam on lifelong learning and implementing the “Digital Popular Education” movement.

At the ceremony, the Prime Minister recalled that 80 years ago, in 1945, when the country had just gained independence, more than 95% of the population could not read or write, "ignorance" became one of the three dangerous enemies (along with "famine" and "foreign invaders"), the "Popular Education" movement was born with the urgent goal of eliminating illiteracy and improving the cultural level of the people. President Ho Chi Minh once said: "An ignorant nation is a weak nation"; therefore, improving the people's knowledge is a solid foundation for building an independent, strong and prosperous nation. After the "Popular Education" movement was launched, in a short time, millions of people learned to read and write, making an important contribution to the resistance war to repel invaders, protect and develop the country.

The effectiveness and experience of the “Popular Education” movement have been recorded in many documents and books. There are simple but memorable stories about this period, such as at some markets, a welcome gate would be set up at the entrance. Anyone who wanted to enter the market had to read the words written on the gate. From such simple but extremely practical and inspiring actions, the “enemy of ignorance” was pushed back and destroyed.

80 years later, science and technology, innovation and digital transformation are objective requirements, strategic choices and top priorities in the current revolutionary period, closely linked to digital society, digital nation, comprehensive and comprehensive digital citizenship. In order to ensure that no one is left behind in the new development period, so that everyone can access the internet, public services on mobile applications, and digital utilities in life, launching the "Digital Popular Education" movement is very meaningful. The "Digital Popular Education" movement is not only inspired by, inherited from and promoted by the "Digital Popular Education" movement launched by President Ho Chi Minh; but as General Secretary To Lam said: "This is an educational initiative, and also a bridge between the past and the future".

With the spirit of “going to every alley, to every house, guiding every person”; the motto of “rapid deployment - widespread connection - smart application”; the “Digital Education for All” movement will certainly achieve brilliant results as our ancestors succeeded 80 years ago.
