According to data posted by the Intellectual Property Office, BYD has registered a copyright for a strange sedan design in Vietnam. Based on the design, experts believe this is the Seal 06, which was recently launched in the Chinese market at the end of May.

A product's design registration does not mean it will be launched in Vietnam, but it is still possible to be introduced, in the context that BYD's electric vehicles are having difficulty reaching users. Moreover, Seal 06 can be considered one of the brand's main products in China.
Having a name quite similar to the Seal model that was launched in Vietnam, but Seal 06 is not a pure electric sedan, but a PHEV (Plug-in hybrid). With length, width and height of 4,830mm, 1,875mm and 1,495mm respectively, this model will be in the D-class sedan segment, competing with Toyota Camry or Mazda6.

The interior of the BYD Seal 06 follows a minimalist style with few buttons. Behind the steering wheel is an 8.8-inch LCD cluster, the central entertainment screen is a 15.6-inch rotating type; this is also a typical design of BYD.
The gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain on the BYD Seal 06 includes a 1.5L gasoline engine with a capacity of 99 horsepower, combined with an electric motor (161-215 horsepower depending on the version), with a CVT gearbox and front-wheel drive.
The highest version of the car uses a 15.9kWh battery, providing an operating range of up to 120km in pure electric mode. When the tank is full (65 liters), the car can travel up to 2,100km, according to the manufacturer's announcement.
In China, BYD Seal 06 has a converted price from 325 million VND (Photo: Carnewschina).
The new BYD brand was launched in Vietnam in mid-July. The Chinese automaker introduced its first three products, all of which are pure electric cars (Dolphin, Atto 3 and Seal).
Similar to many other electric car manufacturers in the market (except VinFast which has a system), BYD faces a major obstacle in not building its own charging station system. Currently, there is a third unit developing public charging stations, but the coverage is not large, and the charging cost is not cheap (some units charge up to nearly 10,000 VND for 1kWh).

Most users are still concerned when approaching products of Chinese origin, due to bad experiences in the past. Therefore, although BYD has quite good sales in the international market, when coming to Vietnam, this brand still needs time to affirm its quality and value.
Another reason why BYD cars have not attracted the attention of users is because of the high selling price, according to many customers. The Dolphin model costs 659 million VND, Atto 3 has 2 versions with listed prices ranging from 766-866 million VND, the selling price of Seal is 1.119-1.359 billion VND.
BYD Seal is considered a rare popular electric sedan option in Vietnam, but its price is more expensive than some gasoline models of the same size such as Mazda6 (769-874 million VND) or Kia K5 (859-999 million VND), equal to Toyota Camry (1.105-1.495 billion VND) (Photo: Nguyen Lam).
