The company does not support, some BYD dealers continue to offer free charging for car buyers

(Dan Tri) - Some BYD dealers will continue to offer free charging in 2025 to attract Vietnamese customers to buy cars. Initially, these establishments only intended to apply the program until the end of 2024.

Unlike other Chinese car brands on the market, BYD has been quite "quiet" since its launch in Vietnam in mid-2024. The company rarely has promotional programs and lacks campaigns to stimulate customers to buy electric cars.

This has forced some dealers to "self-consciously" organize activities and events to attract users' attention, such as test drives. In particular, BYD showrooms under Bitcar's system have installed charging stations and provided free 24/7 charging for car buyers, right from the time they started operating in 2024.

Initially, this program was only applicable until 2024 and was expected to charge a moderate charging cost in 2025. However, recently, a representative of BYD Bitcar in Hanoi shared with Dan Tri newspaper reporters that dealers in this system will continue to charge free of charge for car buyers this year.

Experts explain that this move is reasonable, in the context that BYD does not have its own charging station system. Meanwhile, public charging stations developed by third parties such as EV One, Ecoboost... are not yet developed, have low coverage and are not cheap.

At the same time, VinFast has extended the free charging policy at V-GREEN stations for users until June 30, 2027. This increases pressure on pure electric car businesses from other brands.

BYD Vietnam occasionally has promotions, but has never discounted its products. The company even strictly prohibits dealers from selling cars below the suggested price, according to a sales consultant (Photo: Nguyen Lam).

Although newly launched in Vietnam, BYD's product range is quite "seasoned". There are 5 models being officially distributed, including: Dolphin (659 million VND), Atto 3 (766-866 million VND), Seal (1.119-1.359 billion VND), Han (1.489 billion VND) and M6 (756 million VND).

In addition to the above names, BYD Vietnam also distributes the Tang EV model but on a pre-order basis, only for customers in need. The reason is said to be because the car's name has created controversy in the community, is somewhat sensitive and evokes sadness according to the way it is read in our country.

BYD Tang EV is listed at VND1.569 billion. This price is significantly higher than some gasoline/diesel models of the same size D-SUV, for example Ford Everest (VND1.099-1.545 billion) or Hyundai Santa Fe (VND1.069-1.365 billion) (Photo: Carnewschina).

In the near future, the Chinese car company will launch a new model, the Sealion 6. Unlike previous products, this is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, which dealers expect to attract the attention of Vietnamese customers.

BYD Sealion 6 is positioned in the C-SUV segment, with an overall appearance quite similar to the Atto 3 model, but with a stronger design. The car for the Vietnamese market is said to use a 1.5L gasoline engine, producing 105 horsepower, combined with a 195 horsepower electric motor.

According to information from the Vietnam Register, BYD Sealion 6 has successfully registered for the energy label, with a tested consumption of 1.1 liters/100km (Photo: The Driven).

Referring to the BYD Sealion 6 in the international market, this configuration will be combined with a Blade battery pack with a capacity of 18.3kWh, giving the vehicle an operating range of up to 92km in pure electric mode and 1,092km when combined with hybrid.

The dealer said that Sealion 6 will probably be launched in Vietnam in March or April, with an expected selling price of around 700-800 million VND. This is also the general price range of the C-SUV segment, for example, Mazda CX-5 has a price range of 729-959 million VND, or Ford Territory has a price of 759-889 million VND.
