According to the Federal Message read by the Russian President on February 29, posted on the Kremlin website (Kremlin.ru) , in the first part, Mr. Putin spent time talking about the war to "protect national sovereignty" and praised the soldiers who fought "for the sake of the Fatherland".
According to him, the West wants to "bring discord into Russia, weaken it from within", but "must face the firm stance and determination" of the country's people.
The West incites the Ukraine conflict
The Russian president accused the West of provoking conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East and other regions and blamed Moscow for intending to attack Europe.
Affirming that this was "nonsense", Mr. Putin said that the West was "choosing targets to attack Russian territory and choosing the most effective means of destruction" and also started talking about the possibility of sending NATO military forces to Ukraine.
Warning that the consequences of intervening in the conflict "could be much more tragic" than in World War II, he said: "They must understand that we also have weapons that can strike targets on their territory."
The leader also noted that what the West is thinking about actually risks "leading to a nuclear weapons conflict and that would be the destruction of civilization."
According to Mr. Putin, unlike the Russians who have "experienced the fight against international terrorism in the Caucasus and now the conflict in Ukraine", the West is "not yet experienced difficult trials and they have forgotten what war is".
The Kremlin leader commented that the actions of the US and its allies "have actually led to the destruction of the European security system, creating risks for everyone."
Super weapon 'in battle'
According to President Putin, the protection and consolidation of Russia's sovereignty is taking place in all directions. The Armed Forces have gained extensive combat experience, maintained the initiative, confidently advanced in a number of combat areas, and gained control of more and more territory.
What the country planned to do in the field of weapons, which was presented in the 2018 State of the Nation Address, has been implemented or is in the final stages of completion, while strategic nuclear forces are always in a state of readiness for use.
According to Mr. Putin, the special military operation in Ukraine witnessed the effective operation of the Kinzhal hypersonic aviation complexes, Zircon hypersonic sea-based strike missiles, Avangard intercontinental hypersonic units and Peresvet laser systems.
Meanwhile, tests of the Burevestnik cruise missile with unlimited range and the Poseidon underwater drone with unique and advanced characteristics are also being completed.
Russia has also delivered the first serial Sarmat heavy ballistic missiles to the military and will soon deploy them operationally.
The Russian President affirmed that his country did not start the conflict in Donbass, Eastern Ukraine, but Moscow will do everything to end and resolve all tasks of the special military campaign, protecting the sovereignty and safety of Russian citizens.
