Women reduce difficulties thanks to the "savings pooling" model

Established in 2006, the “savings pooling” model of the Women's Union of Binh Trung commune has brought many opportunities to women, helping them access interest-free loans, contributing to stabilizing their lives and developing their family economy.

According to the President of the Women's Union of Binh Trung Commune, Trinh Van, this is an activity to create a common savings fund in women's groups with the contribution of each participating member. Women's groups often hold regular meetings on the 16th day of the lunar calendar every month, each group will have from 30 to 50 members. In which, women in the groups will contribute a savings amount depending on their financial capacity, on average each savings group will contribute from 15 to 20 million VND/month. After that, members in need will be able to borrow at 0% interest. The process of borrowing and repaying capital is very flexible, helping women reduce financial difficulties when they need capital to invest in production, livestock, farming, trading, paying school fees for children or sudden illness, etc.

Each contribution and loan is recorded transparently and clearly to create trust for members when participating. The leader of the savings group will be the person in charge of managing and ensuring that the fund is used for the right purpose and for the right subjects. If the capital fund in the month is not enough to meet the number of members who need to borrow, the savings groups will consider priority to ensure fairness.

It can be seen that the “savings pooling” model has brought positive changes to the lives of many women in Binh Trung commune. Many families have overcome difficulties and improved their lives thanks to this savings fund. A typical case is the family of Ms. Vo Thi Thu (40 years old), residing in Quan hamlet, Dong Thuan village. Her husband died early, she had to raise two young children alone while the family's economic conditions were very difficult. However, thanks to a loan from the savings fund, she had enough capital to open a small business model at home.

“With the more than 10 million VND borrowed, I bought machinery and raw materials to make rice paper. Thanks to that, I have enough money to take care of my children's education, and life is less difficult,” Ms. Thu shared.

Another case, also in Dong Thuan village, is the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao (60 years old). Her husband suffered a stroke more than 15 years ago, and she is the main breadwinner who covers all the living expenses in the family. The difficult years seemed to have pushed her to the brink of death, but thanks to loans from the savings fund, she was able to lift her spirits and continue trying.

“I am very grateful, if there were no funds from this savings model, I probably wouldn’t know how to manage when my husband was sick because borrowing money from outside would cost me high interest rates, and I don’t know when life would get better. Thanks to the loan, I also had a little capital to open a banh xeo shop to do business, thanks to that now my family doesn’t have to worry about food and clothing like before,” Ms. Thao said emotionally.

From the obvious effectiveness, the “savings pooling” model of the Women’s Union of Binh Trung commune has been maintained and increasingly developed. Up to now, the commune has 25 savings groups operating regularly with hundreds of members participating. This model not only helps women overcome financial difficulties but also creates a community of solidarity, sharing, and support for mutual development. In the coming time, the Women’s Union of Binh Trung commune said it will continue to promote the effectiveness of the model, while expanding activities to support women, helping them confidently continue to develop the economy, improve the quality of life, contributing to the overall development of the community.
