Many effective models
In the western region of Duy Xuyen district, Ms. Mai Thi Thu Suong (Duy Phu commune) boldly developed a black apple snail farming model, with quite high economic efficiency.
Ms. Suong said that black apple snails are easy to raise, only require initial capital investment, and make use of natural food sources available in the garden such as vegetables, grass, duckweed, etc. to help black apple snails grow healthily, save investment costs, and clean the water source. From raising to selling takes about 4 months. Each month, she sells 100kg of snail meat to the market, priced from 80-90 thousand VND/kg.
“In addition to focusing on commercial black apple snail farming, I also hatch and sell snail eggs and process many snail meat products, such as smoked snails, snail patties in bamboo tubes... to supply restaurants, wedding parties, eateries, mainly in Quang Nam, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. On average, each year, the model generates revenue of more than 1 billion VND; after deducting expenses, the net profit is 300-400 million VND” - Ms. Suong shared.

Five years ago, Ms. Tran Thi Chung (Nam Phuoc town) learned the secret of making nem cha from the locals and went all the way to Hai Phong to find a reputable facility to learn the trade. By studying hard, she processed sausages and cha with many different flavors.
“Currently, my facility sells an average of more than 50kg of spring rolls, sausages, and meatballs every day, earning 10-15 million VND in revenue. In particular, to increase competitiveness with similar industrial products, I am determined to pursue safe production and build a brand of clean spring rolls, sausages, and meatballs, ensuring no preservatives, no colorants, and no borax. Thanks to that, I have more regular customers from Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City,” said Ms. Chung.
In recent times, women's association members in Duy Xuyen have effectively maintained many economic development models, attracting more than 700 women to participate.
Among them, we must mention the models of women's groups of small traders, women's groups of seafood processing, women's groups of broom-wrapping, women's groups of leather shoe sewing; or individuals such as Ms. Pham Thi Duy My with the model of producing nutritious cereal powder, Ms. Vo Thi Tam with Ban Thach bird's nest, Heathy confectionery of Ms. Huynh Thi Thu Thao, production of grapefruit essential oil and fermented grapefruit juice of Ms. Phan Thi Ha...

Various forms of support
Identifying the task of mobilizing and supporting women in economic development and sustainable poverty reduction as a key task, in recent years, the Women's Union of Duy Xuyen district has synchronously implemented many solutions to support and create conditions for female members to develop their family economy.
Ms. Tran Thi Minh Yen - President of Duy Xuyen Women's Union said that in 2024, the District Union coordinated to open 3 specialized training courses to support the development of collective economy and cooperatives for female business owners, cooperative groups, cooperatives, start-up projects and 7 vocational training classes for 210 female members.
Along with that, providing livelihoods to 6 households with a value of 18 million VND; mobilizing resources to support the construction and repair of 13 charity shelters with a value of 1.7 billion VND; mobilizing support for 70 cases of difficulty, sudden illness, and serious illness with a total amount of more than 1.1 billion VND...
This helped 28 households escape poverty and near-poverty and 16 women start their own businesses. At the same time, the district association mobilized funding to support 5 start-up ideas with a total amount of 90 million VND to design packaging, labels, advertising, and build product brands.

In addition, the District Association secured loans from the Duy Xuyen District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office for 5,998 members with a total outstanding debt of VND 263.8 billion, thereby encouraging many female members to actively develop production and business.
On the other hand, the association also promotes and guides members to maintain and develop traditional occupations; proactively approach customers as well as create new products...
“Over the past years, through many forms, the Women's Union of Duy Xuyen district has supported poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged women members to develop their household economy and escape poverty sustainably. Since then, it has contributed to reducing the current poverty rate of the entire district to 2.06%, down 1.45% compared to 2 years ago.
In the coming time, the District Association will continue to replicate the model points, good practices in economic development and create conditions for members to learn from experiences. From there, change the mindset, help women be more proactive in developing the family economy, contributing to ensuring social security" - Ms. Tran Thi Minh Yen said.
