According to the Times of Israel , in a letter to an opposition lawmaker, the Public Prosecutor's Office stated that, with the assistance of its cybercrime unit, a criminal investigation has been opened to investigate the suspects.
Knesset member Naama Lazimi shared the letter on social media X on February 2, confirming that a criminal investigation was launched on December 26.
“Receiving an official notification from the Attorney General’s Office that a criminal investigation has been opened against Prime Minister Netanyahu’s wife, Sara, is important for parliamentary oversight, the judiciary and the rule of law,” said parliamentarian Lazimi.
Her office contacted the prosecutor following an investigation by the Uvda news program on Israel's Channel 12 , she added.
The Uvda program claims that Sara Netanyahu ordered Hanni Bleiweiss, her husband's late aide, to organize protests and online campaigns against Hadas Klein, a key witness in the ongoing corruption trial against Prime Minister Netanyahu.
In addition, the investigation report from Uvda also accused Mrs. Netanyahu organized protests to harass the Prosecutor General, his deputy and others perceived as hostile to her husband.
On December 26, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and State Solicitor General Amit Aisman announced that they had ordered an investigation into suspected witness harassment and obstruction of justice, following the Uvda report.
In 2019, Sara Netanyahu was convicted of misusing state funds amounting to about $50,000.
