In Vietnam, electric vehicles are becoming a new development and consumption trend, opening up a potential market with fierce competition between domestic and foreign car manufacturers. Some leading domestic enterprises are manufacturing and assembling electric cars such as VinFast, Hyundai Thanh Cong, Thaco and TMT. In the first 6 months of 2024, a total of 17,536 electric cars were sold in Vietnam, along with 2,190 electric cars imported.
With the rapid development of electric vehicles in recent years, many businesses have expressed interest in the market providing equipment and services for electric vehicles, especially charging stations in Vietnam.
Currently, the charging station system with the largest coverage in Vietnam is VinFast, deployed in parking lots, bus stations, apartment buildings, offices, shopping centers, rest stops, and gas stations along highways and national highways.
In addition, some companies import and supply genuine charging stations from abroad, such as EV One, EverCharge, EverEV, Green Charge, Star Charge, Autel..., mainly installing charging stations at dealerships and households for car owners.
The system of electric charging stations with the largest coverage in Vietnam belongs to VinFast. |
In order to develop technical infrastructure and complete the system of electric vehicle charging stations/posts to promote sustainable green energy conversion in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister in Decision No. 876/QD-TTg dated July 22, 2022 on green energy conversion, reducing carbon and methane emissions in the transport sector, one of the important tasks is to urgently review and complete the TCVN and QCVN system on electric vehicle charging stations/posts, in conjunction with the national planning on installation, arrangement, and operation of electric vehicle charging stations/posts, in combination with the master plan for the development of related technical infrastructure.
Regarding the TCVN and QCVN systems, the Ministry of Science and Technology has published 58 TCVNs related to electric vehicles and related systems, including: 41 TCVNs on safety, speed measurement, energy consumption, emissions, battery systems on electric vehicles; 4 TCVNs on electric vehicle charging cables; 8 TCVNs on electric vehicle charging systems (stipulating general requirements, electromagnetic compatibility, communication between charging stations and electric vehicles, safety requirements for charging station installation systems, switching and voltage reduction control units in electric vehicle charging areas); 5 TCVNs on electrical measuring equipment. However, there is currently no QCVN on electric vehicle charging posts/stations.
This is a state management tool to ensure technical safety of electric vehicle charging stations/posts, orientate a transparent competitive market, and protect consumer rights in transactions and electricity trading between charging station/post owners and customers.
