The closing ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games was shorter than the grand opening ceremony. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen thanked all the sports delegations and Southeast Asian countries for their contributions to the success of the SEA Games.
At the closing ceremony, the organizing committee honored two outstanding athletes of the 32nd SEA Games. They were Quah Ting Wen (Singapore, won 6 gold medals, 2 silver medals in swimming) and Pal Choraksmey (Cambodia, won 4 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal in vovinam).
The flag of the Southeast Asian Games Federation at Morodok Techo Stadium was lowered and handed over to the host of the 33rd SEA Games - Thailand. The next Games will be held in 2025 in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla (Thailand).
The closing ceremony ended with a brilliant fireworks display. The torch at Morodok Techo Stadium stopped burning. The 32nd SEA Games officially came to an end.
The Vietnamese sports delegation successfully defended their number one position at the SEA Games, topping the overall rankings with 136 gold medals, 105 silver medals, and 114 bronze medals (a total of 355 medals). This is a record number for the Vietnamese sports delegation at the Games not held on home soil.
Thailand ranked second in the medal tally (108 gold medals). Indonesia (86 gold medals) and Cambodia (81) were next in line. Timor Leste was the only sports delegation that did not win any gold medals at the 32nd SEA Games.
The Vietnamese sports delegation participated in the 32nd SEA Games with the goal of winning 80-120 gold medals, placing them in the top 3 leading delegations. At the end of the Games, the Vietnamese athletes exceeded their targets in both their overall rankings and the number of gold medals.
The three sports that brought the most gold medals to the Vietnamese sports delegation were diving (14 gold medals), wrestling (13 gold medals) and athletics (12 gold medals). However, in the important Olympic sports of swimming and football, the Vietnamese delegation failed to meet the target.
