On June 28, the People's Committee of Ngoc Chuc Commune, Giong Rieng District, Kien Giang, announced that Zheng Huanyi (born in 2009) returned home safely at 6:45 p.m. on June 26.
How did Zheng Huanyi end up in Giong Rieng?
Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , monk Danh Thanh - abbot of Cai Duoc Lon pagoda, Ngoc Chuc commune (Giong Rieng district, Kien Giang) - said that around June 2023, a car brought Zheng Huanyi to the front of the pagoda and left her there.
At that time, Zheng Huanyi had nothing but the clothes she was wearing and her eyes were red and filled with tears from crying so much.
"At that time, Zheng Huanyi kept crying and said that he got lost in Ho Chi Minh City and asked to stay at the temple. Feeling sorry for him, I took Zheng Huanyi in," monk Thanh recalled the first time he met Zheng Huanyi.
Master Thanh added that Zheng Huanyi was very gentle, quiet, and lived like the other monks at the temple. In particular, Zheng Huanyi also helped the monks with things like buying food, making water for the temple repairmen, etc. Therefore, the monks at Cai Duoc Lon Temple loved Zheng Huanyi very much.
"At Zheng Huanyi Temple, his name is Duy. He also speaks Vietnamese quite well, so I didn't know he was Chinese. I often confided in Zheng Huanyi and asked about his home and relatives so that the monks could take him home, but he didn't say anything. Today Zheng Huanyi returned home safely, I am very happy and miss him," added Master Thanh.
Local authorities said that in 2019, Zheng Huanyi and her biological father entered Vietnam by land, with a visa and passport. Zheng Huanyi's father later met and lived with Ms. NTH in Ho Chi Minh City. Here, Zheng Huanyi attended a Chinese class teaching Vietnamese.
In 2022, Zheng Huanyi went to visit Mrs. H.'s house (her stepmother) in Giong Rieng district. After a few days of visiting, Zheng Huanyi and her father returned to Ho Chi Minh City.
In early 2023, Zheng Huanyi's father took her back to Giong Rieng district and abandoned her there. After that, she took refuge at Cai Duoc Lon pagoda, Ngoc Chuc commune until she returned home safely.

There is delicious food, beautiful clothes also brought for Zheng Huanyi
Knowing Zheng Huanyi well when she was still at the pagoda, Ms. Huynh Thi Chinh - a resident of Ngoc Chuc commune - informed that when Zheng Huanyi was still here, Ms. Chinh and the people in the village loved her very much. Whoever had delicious food or beautiful clothes would bring them to Zheng Huanyi.
With her gentle nature, Ms. Chinh said that some people even wanted to adopt Zheng Huanyi. However, because there were no papers and her origins were unknown, there was nothing they could do.
"I sell drinks here, and I give everything delicious to Zheng Huanyi. At first, because it was a strange place, she also got sick, with dermatitis caused by mosquito bites. The monks at the temple also gave her money for a haircut and to buy medicine or go to the doctor. Monk Thanh at the temple loved Zheng Huanyi very much," said Ms. Chinh.
Mr. Ly Thanh Luan - Chairman of Ngoc Chuc Commune People's Committee - affirmed that when Zheng Huanyi was still at the pagoda, he was loved by everyone. When the locality learned that Zheng Huanyi was a foreigner, they reported to the People's Committee of Giong Rieng District to provide appropriate support.
"Knowing that Zheng Huanyi was abandoned and living illegally, the Giong Rieng District Police took her to the Kien Giang Social Protection Center to receive the best care and education, waiting for the day she could return home. The police contacted her relatives abroad and assisted with the necessary paperwork to help her return home to reunite with her family," said Mr. Luan.
Zheng Huanyi's family sends thanks to the authorities and people of Vietnam
Previously, Tuoi Tre Online reported that on June 26, The Immigration Department of Kien Giang Provincial Police coordinated with the Giong Rieng District Police to provide a vehicle to take Zheng Huanyi (15 years old, from Thang Tu District, Zhejiang, China) to Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City to return home.
Zheng Huanyi took a China Southern Airlines flight and Ms. Ten Wei (Zheng Huanyi's mother) picked her up and brought her home at 6:45 p.m. on June 26.
The person legally authorized to do the paperwork for Zheng Huanyi, Mr. Ha Tuan Minh - director of Vietnam International Travel Company Limited in Phu Quoc - informed that Ms. Ten Wei was very emotional when she saw her son again.
At the same time, she and her family also sent sincere thanks to Kien Giang Provincial Police and local people for taking care of Zheng Huanyi while he was still wandering and abandoned in Giong Rieng district.
