According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) , at the meeting, President Kim Jong Un and Deputy Minister Alexei Krivoruchko noted the importance and necessity of military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang to ensure common security.
Kim Jong Un once again noted the importance of the North Korea-Russia summit in Pyongyang last June, and stressed that the two countries' militaries need to unite more closely to develop bilateral relations in the new era.
Earlier, on July 8, a North Korean military delegation visited Russia, in the context of the two countries exchanging a record number of high-ranking officials in recent times.
On June 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a state visit to North Korea and held talks with host country President Kim Jong Un. After the talks, the two leaders signed a treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, which is considered a breakthrough, bringing bilateral cooperation to a new level.
The treaty sets out major tasks and directions to deepen relations between the two countries in the long term, in the fields of politics, trade and investment, culture as well as security, and is a legal basis to protect peace, security and build a strong nation for the benefit of both sides.
In addition, within the framework of President Putin's visit, the two sides also signed cooperation agreements in the fields of health care, medical education and science as well as an agreement to build a road bridge across the Tumannaya River on the border of the two countries.
