Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VIMC) aims to develop a comprehensive service chain and effective connections to promote import and export between Vietnam and India.
Speaking at the workshop "Vision and investment potential in the port system, maritime transport and logistics in India" recently held in New Delhi (India), Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai said that Vietnam and India are connected by cultural and civilizational links.
Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai delivered the opening speech at the workshop.
The two countries have always supported each other in the struggle for independence in the last century and in the cause of national development today. Vietnam-India bilateral relations have been growing strongly in many fields under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreement.
According to Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai, the recent State visit to India by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has created a great impetus to further promote bilateral relations. One of the Prime Minister’s directives is to double the trade and investment turnover between the two countries.
Appreciating the essential role of the seaport system, maritime transport and logistics in maritime connectivity as well as in trade and investment, the Ambassador said that bilateral maritime connectivity is still modest, not commensurate with the needs and potential of the two countries.
According to him, investment in the port system, maritime transport and logistics in India will directly facilitate economic interaction, diversify maritime transport services and bring benefits to the two countries.
According to a report from Invest India, the Indian economy is expected to grow at an impressive 8.3% in the financial year 2023-2024, leading among major economies in the world.
With the goal of becoming the world's third largest economy by 2027, the country is creating an attractive investment environment, especially in the fields of port infrastructure, shipping and logistics.
India’s foreign trade turnover reached 776 billion USD in 2023 and is expected to surpass 2,000 billion USD by 2030, showing that there is a lot of room for growth in the logistics sector. These figures are an opportunity for maritime enterprises like VIMC to leverage their advantages and build efficient supply chains, directly connecting Vietnam with a market of more than 1.4 billion people.
Mr. Le Quang Trung, Deputy General Director of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VIMC), wishes to expand cooperation with Indian partners to invest in seaport infrastructure systems.
At the workshop, Mr. Le Quang Trung, Deputy General Director of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VIMC), emphasized that VIMC's goal is to develop a comprehensive service chain and effective connections to promote import and export between the two countries.
Mr. Trung expressed his desire to not only maintain existing shipping routes, but also expand maritime routes, cooperate with Indian partners to invest in appropriate port and logistics infrastructure systems. From there, create a complete logistics ecosystem and promote two-way goods between the two countries.
According to Mr. Trung, currently, VIMC Lines, a member enterprise of VIMC, is implementing direct container routes between Hai Phong - India and Cua Lo - Kolkata from 2021 and 2022.
These routes not only shorten the transportation time but also create stability for the supply chain, strongly supporting import-export businesses of both countries. VIMC Lines plans to open more shipping routes to the ports of Chennail and Kattupalli in India.
In the future, VIMC aims to build logistics centers called "Vietnam House" in India. This will be a platform to provide integrated services, from storage, delivery to freight transport, with optimal efficiency and competitive costs, serving the growing needs of businesses in the two markets.
Affirming that the workshop not only expands VIMC's operations in this potential market, Mr. Trung said that the event also lays the foundation for a sustainable and long-term cooperative relationship.
During a meeting with Mr. Ramachandran, Deputy Minister of the Indian Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways at the ministry's headquarters in New Delhi, VIMC representatives expressed their desire to continue receiving support from the ministry in their efforts to maintain and develop new service routes, as well as support in policies and mechanisms... when the enterprise studies opportunities to expand investment cooperation in the field of port exploitation and logistics to close the service chain between Vietnam and India.
Welcoming VIMC's goodwill and strategy for both breadth and depth of development, Deputy Minister Ramachandran introduced a number of projects under investment and the bidding method widely applied in India.
Deputy Minister Ramachandran pledged to introduce the leaders of ports, shipping companies and major manufacturers for VIMC to evaluate and connect directly. He affirmed his willingness to listen and support VIMC in handling any issues arising during the implementation of operations in India.
