Donald Trump's speech to the nation on election night confirmed that "one of the biggest winners of the evening—other than himself—was Elon Musk."

Republican candidate Donald Trump's campaign once called the Tesla boss a "one-of-a-kind business mind" in a statement sent to Reuters , adding that "the new administration hopes to benefit from the brilliant and effective ideas of billionaire Musk"... Indeed, billionaire Elon Musk's 'grand election project' has proven the ability of this business mind.

The US media calls CEO Elon Musk a "kingmaker".

Former President Trump spent much of his victory speech thanking Mr Musk, who has recently spent more than $130 million and invested a lot of time and tweets to support the Republican candidate in the 2024 race for the White House.

Mr. Trump has also heaped praise on the rocket company SpaceX and its Starlink internet satellites—both of which are working on US government contracts.

“He’s a character, he’s a special person, he’s a super genius. We have to protect our genius,” the former president said of Mr. Musk.

During the campaign, Mr. Trump said he would create a new “Government Performance Commission” within his administration, headed by the tech CEO himself, at the billionaire’s request. The commission would conduct a “financial and operational performance audit of the entire federal government” and make sweeping reform proposals.

The position is expected to give Musk broad power to radically cut down what he sees as the "huge federal bureaucracy that is holding America back." The media said that Musk's efforts to support Mr. Trump are helping him become one of the most influential political and economic advisors to the 47th US president.

Is that the goal that the world's richest billionaire is aiming for?

"No business leader has endorsed Republican candidate Donald Trump more than Elon Musk. He's made a big bet here. He's thrown himself into this election," said Daniel Ives, a technology analyst at Wedbush Securities.

On November 6, when Mr. Trump was named the winner, billionaire Musk's public company also won big, with shares of electric car maker Tesla skyrocketing (13%) as soon as the market opened. This slight "boost" raised the value of the 411 million Tesla shares owned by the technology CEO to more than $13 billion, equivalent to a profit of more than 11,000% higher than the approximately $130 million he "invested" in former President Trump's election campaign.

At the close of trading on November 6, Tesla electric car shares increased by 14.7% - the strongest increase in the world that day, reaching the highest level since July 2022, helping CEO Musk gain an additional 26.5 billion USD in just one session.

It can be said that billionaire Musk "won big" when betting on the Republican candidate in this year's US Presidential race.

Trump’s return has also excited supporters of a more open future for American industry, including Shervin Pishevar, a venture capitalist who invested in SpaceX and supports the transformation of Silicon Valley under President Trump 2.0. He said the deregulation would accelerate SpaceX’s efforts to reach Mars.

Meanwhile, tech CEO Elon Musk is also known for his disapproval of excessive government intervention when faced with any kind of corporate oversight or punishment, so it’s no surprise that the billionaire has tied himself to candidate Donald Trump, who has promised to deregulate and support looser government oversight.

Additionally, the Musk-Trump “alliance” could help the tech CEO secure federal contracts. The New York Times reported that SpaceX and Tesla have amassed at least $15.4 billion in government contracts over the past decade.

Musk’s colleagues and government officials say the billionaire’s investment in Mr. Trump is part of a broader effort to shield his companies from regulation and secure access to government subsidies.

Musk has also vowed to fight for deregulation and seek influence over US policy on artificial intelligence (AI), space exploration and electric vehicles - all areas in which Musk has a stake through his leadership of companies such as xAI, SpaceX and Tesla.
