Previously, most people in Tuyen Hoa district raised local grass-fed cattle; the form of small-scale farming was mainly household-based and free-range. The body weight and size of the cattle were small, and the meat ratio was low, so the farming efficiency was not high.
In order to develop and improve the quality of cattle in the area, Tuyen Hoa district has developed and implemented the "Project for developing crossbred cattle in the period of 2016-2020". Accordingly, the District People's Committee has mobilized capital from programs and projects to support over 13 billion VND to buy 1,283 crossbred cows and 5 crossbred Sind bulls to support the people; at the same time, supporting over 380 million VND for households to grow grass, increasing the grass area for cattle to eat to nearly 600 hectares. Disease prevention, hunger and cold for cattle, environmental sanitation in livestock farming are always of concern... By 2020, the total herd of cattle in the district will reach 16,000, of which crossbred cattle account for 67.5% of the total herd.
Based on the results achieved, in early 2021, Tuyen Hoa district continued to issue the "Concentrated Livestock Project for the period 2021-2025". Up to now, communes and towns in the area have completed the planning of concentrated livestock areas; disease prevention and control, pasture development, storage and processing of feed for cows have always been focused on.
Tien Hoa Commune has 770 cows, of which 90% are crossbred. To improve the quality of the cow herd, the Commune People's Committee has promoted and supported farmers to apply the artificial insemination method of 3B cows on local crossbred cows (Sind, Brahman). In early 2023, the commune also established a professional association for crossbred cow breeding in Bau 3 village and mobilized socialized resources to support 3B cows for the people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phu, Bau 3 village shared: “In addition to receiving breeding cows, I was also trained in raising, caring for, growing grass and processing feed for crossbred cows to disseminate to the villagers. Up to now, the village has 110 cows, of which crossbred cows account for about 95%.”
Mr. Le Quang Toa, in Bau 3 village, Tien Hoa commune, excitedly said: "I see that crossbred cows are growing well, with higher productivity and economic efficiency than local cows. Crossbred calves are also very gluttonous, gain weight quickly, and feed costs are also lower than other cow breeds". Previously, Mr. Toa's family mainly raised local cows but the economic efficiency was not high. Since 2023, with the propaganda and guidance of the Commune Farmers' Association, he has artificially inseminated 3B cows on 2 Sind crossbred cows. Now his 2 cows have given birth to 2 calves with outstanding physique compared to previous litters, promising to bring high income to the family.
Thuan Hoa is a mountainous commune with a large agricultural land area, favorable for livestock development. Taking advantage of this, many people in the commune have developed crossbred cattle farming. Currently, the commune has 342 cows, of which 303 are crossbred.
Vice Chairman of Tuyen Hoa District People's Committee Dinh Tien Dung said: "In the coming time, the District People's Committee will continue to promote and create conditions for people to raise crossbred cows; allocate land to households in need to soon put concentrated breeding areas into operation. Strive to have the rate of crossbred cows in the whole district reach 80% by the end of 2025. The district will also build more disease-free areas, livestock farms that meet the criteria, convert ineffective crop land to grass for cattle feed and strengthen investment linkages in production according to the value chain"... |
Chairman of Thuan Hoa Commune People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Cac said: "In recent times, the commune has coordinated with specialized agencies to organize training courses to improve knowledge, techniques, and cow care for livestock households; provide financial support for people to buy cow breeds, grow grass, and feed processing machines for cows. Thanks to that, the quantity and quality of crossbred cows have increased significantly."
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tu, in Xuan Canh village, Thuan Hoa commune, is raising 5 cows, including 3 crossbred cows bred from 3B cows using artificial insemination. Mr. Tu shared: “Compared to local cows, crossbred cows are larger, grow faster, and have higher productivity. Some crossbred cows I sell for twice the price of local cows. To take care of the herd, I have set aside nearly 1 sao of land in the garden, taking advantage of the fragmented agricultural land to grow grass and compost straw for the cows to eat.”
According to many local crossbred cattle breeders, through the breeding process, crossbred cattle have shown outstanding advantages, such as: Easy to raise, fast growth, delicious meat quality, higher meat yield compared to other cattle breeds, so they are very popular with traders...
