Floodwaters engulf the spillway, but people still risk their lives to catch fish.

From the evening of September 19 to the morning of September 20, prolonged heavy rain caused water from the upper reaches of the Ngan Pho River (Huong Son District, Ha Tinh) to pour in rapidly.

At 9:45 a.m. on September 20, floodwaters rose rapidly, causing Pho Giang overflow bridge (connecting Pho Chau town and Son Giang commune, Huong Son district) to be flooded, cutting off traffic.

At both ends of Pho Giang spillway, the authorities of Pho Chau town and Son Giang commune have put up barricades and warning signs, prohibiting people from passing through the dangerous area.

On the afternoon of September 20, the rainfall in Pho Chau town, Huong Son district decreased but floodwaters still poured in. Many people went to the banks of Ngan Pho river to watch and take pictures.

Faced with the complicated flood situation, the authorities of Huong Son district and other localities have propagated, warned, and strictly prohibited people from collecting firewood and fishing on both sides of the river to ensure safety.

However, on the afternoon of September 20, despite the danger, a group of young men without life jackets rowed a boat to the flooded area of ​​the Ngan Pho River to cast nets to catch fish.

The flood of Ngan Pho River rose, forcing crickets from their burrows and holes near the riverbank to move to floating grounds and climb up bushes. Realizing this, local people brought plastic bottles and rushed to catch them to prepare food.

According to the Ha Tinh Hydro-Meteorological Station, the flood on the Ngan Pho River (Huong Son District) has risen above alert level 2, causing flooding in low-lying areas along the river. The flood on the Ngan Sau River (Huong Khe District) and the La River (Duc Tho District) is continuing to rise but the water level is below alert level 1.

It is forecasted that in the next 6-24 hours, the flood on Ngan Pho River will continue to rise and is likely to peak at level below alert level 3, then decrease.
