Ha Tinh female student with special name successfully 'hunts' for Hungarian Government scholarship

(Dan Tri) - Determined to find opportunities for development in her studies, Dau Quynh An Na won a "ticket" to study abroad in Hungary with a Government scholarship package.

Dau Quynh An Na (born 2004, Ha Tinh) studied Marketing Management at the National Economics University. After a period of hard work, the female student successfully won a scholarship called "Stipendium Hungaricum" from the Hungarian Government and began studying abroad in September 2023. Currently, An Na is a first-year student, majoring in Commerce and Marketing, Budapest Business School - which is ranked by Webometrics as the number 1 business school in Hungary.

Study abroad to seek development opportunities in Europe

Having cherished the dream of studying abroad since she was a child, An Na has constantly strived and accumulated achievements to make her profile more outstanding. As a 12th grader, the female student from Ha Tinh received a 90% scholarship in Business Administration from SP Jain School of Global Management in Singapore and Australia, and a talent scholarship in Business from Swinburne Vietnam. Being the only daughter, An Na's family did not want her to live away from home too soon. Instead of preventing her, her parents chose to respect all her decisions and were willing to accompany and support her as much as possible. An Na's original plan was to study at a domestic university and set a goal of finding a master's scholarship in France. However, she accidentally learned about the "Stipendium Hungaricum" scholarship of the Hungarian Government, so she quickly spent time researching. Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, An Na said: "Learning about Hungary, I realized that this is a peaceful and beautiful place in the heart of Europe and they especially care and focus on serious investment in the education sector. After the first semester at the National Economics University, I decided to temporarily stop studying in Vietnam and hope that I can try to find development opportunities in Europe through the Government scholarship package."

To be able to "hunt" for the Government scholarship package, An Na had to go through many challenges. Because the decision to register was quite urgent, the female student from Ha Tinh only had about 10 days to prepare 3 sets of documents, submitting them to the Ministries of Education and Training of Vietnam and Hungary. "What I remember most is probably the stage of preparing documents right before the Lunar New Year 2023. While most of my friends had returned to their hometowns for the holidays, I was still alone in Hanoi, running back and forth to prepare documents. From notarization, translating all documents to going for a health check and preparing an essay..., everything became urgent and difficult. Looking back now, I still remember and cherish that time," An Na confided. Having passed the requirements from the Department of International Cooperation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, An Na's application information was sent to Hungary for review. Here, An Na will have to take an entrance exam as well as a 20-minute face-to-face interview with the school she previously registered for. If accepted, the candidate's profile will be sent to the final round for review by the Tempus Foundation and classified for scholarship eligibility. According to An Na, the special feature of the Hungarian Government Scholarship is that it requires students to write a letter in the form of a motivation letter instead of a simple essay like schools in other countries. A stereotypical storytelling style will not leave as much of an impression as a straightforward, clear presentation of the student's views, goals, and motivations. "A very important point in successfully conquering foreign scholarships is to understand your profile to be able to grasp the requirements and expectations of the admissions committee for candidates. If you only focus on preparing documents and writing essays without clearly defining the requirements, your profile will lack depth and will have difficulty impressing the admissions committee," An Na added.

The biggest difficulty of international students is homesickness.

Moving to a completely new environment, An Na realized that she needed to be more independent, change her lifestyle and study methods to be different from when she was in Vietnam. After having the opportunity to experience and live in two countries, An Na noticed some interesting differences. If in Vietnam, life is a bit bustling, in Hungary, everything is slower and there are fewer places for entertainment. The curriculum in Vietnam is more structured, the amount of knowledge is also a lot and especially students must concentrate completely when in class. Meanwhile, in Hungary, the lessons take place in the form of lecture-seminars (seminars) with the theory part simplified and mainly emphasizing the spirit of teamwork, doing project assignments, etc.

In addition to the Government scholarship, An Na won the championship of the "Marketing Hive 2023" competition organized by the Diplomatic Academy.

An interesting thing when she first arrived in Hungary, the female student from Ha Tinh did not have to change her name to English like many other foreign students because she was lucky to have a Western name given to her by her parents - Dau Quynh An Na. "When I was in school with this name, I had many funny stories. Most of the time when the teachers called the roll call, I called them to see their faces because I mistook them for a mixed-race person. Even in 9th grade, when I posted an article to interact in a group on social networks, I immediately received tens of thousands of interactions just because of my strange name. Perhaps thanks to the name An Na, I felt more special in the eyes of everyone," the female student confided. When she first came to study, An Na felt sad and had difficulty adapting to the lifestyle and food in Europe. For many weeks in a row, the female student had to secretly hide from her parents and cry alone because she missed her home and friends in Vietnam so much. In her weakest moments, An Na only knew how to make friends with the photos and short videos she took and recorded when she was with her family members. However, after a few trips and exploring many places, the female student was able to adapt to the pace of life and the way of studying in Hungary.

Ha Tinh female student returned home to visit on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2024.

For the girl born in 2004, Lunar New Year is always the most meaningful and memorable moment. Different from the original plan, the female student decided to return to Vietnam during the holiday and spend all her time with her small family. An Na confided: "I am extremely excited because Tet 2024 is a bit different. This year, I am in the mindset of a child returning from far away. I try to enjoy and record as many beautiful moments on New Year's Day as possible so that when I return to Hungary, I will not feel regretful about anything." Talking about her plans for the new year, An Na affirmed that 2024 will be a big turning point for her when she begins to lay the first "bricks" on the journey to build her own life. The female student from Ha Tinh will try to set foot in many new lands in Europe to contemplate and explore the wonderful things of the world. In particular, she also sets a new goal of finding an internship opportunity at a large enterprise in Hungary.
