On November 15, 2024, the Prime Minister signed a decision to transform the National Economics University into the National Economics University. This is an important milestone in the development process, marking a strong transformation from a University into a multidisciplinary, multi-field University.
At the ceremony, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Training announced and presented the Prime Minister's decision on the establishment of the National Economics University, and announced and presented the Minister of Education and Training's decision on the establishment of the University Council.
Accordingly, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Duc Tho holds the position of Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of the Council of the National Economics University. Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Duc Tho was born in 1975 in Ha Tinh. He was a former student and lecturer at the National Economics University. He then studied for a master's degree at Boise State University, USA and did research in Public Administration at Kyung Hee University, Korea. From 2021, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Duc Tho holds the position of Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of the Council.
Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong holds the position of Director of the National Economics University. Prof. Dr. Chuong was born in 1964, from Thuong Tin district, Hanoi. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Transport Economics from Moscow State University of Transport, Russia in 1986, then studied postgraduate in Economics at Essex University (UK) and Master's degree at Saint Mary's University (Canada). Since 2019, he has been appointed as the Principal of the National Economics University, and is currently the Director of the National Economics University.
The two Vice Presidents of the National Economics University are Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong and Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu.
Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son shared: "Today will go down in the history of the school's development. The name National Economics University will replace National Economics University. The only difference is the removal of the first word in the name, but it paves the way for the word Dai to come first and help the school move towards Dai in all aspects...".
According to the Minister, the key issue is not whether it is big or small. The university is important because it is a large entity with an internal structure that requires high university management capacity and level, aiming for development, demonstrating the desire for development and growth. The university allows for the promotion of autonomy and dynamism. Autonomy can be implemented down to the lowest level unit and to professional groups and scientists. If the organizational model design does not aim to liberate the creative capacity from within the educational institution, the model transformation will not bring much value. The new internal organizational and administrative model that the school chooses creates greater capacity, allows for liberation from within, liberation in depth, and brings university autonomy to higher efficiency.
“The university model is an internal governance model that aims at multidisciplinary development, so in the development orientation for the coming time, the National Economics University needs to aim for a reasonable multidisciplinary structure, multidisciplinary but still promoting advantages, strengths and traditional strengths. It is necessary to stand firmly on traditional strengths, strengths and characteristics, expand in the direction of related and mutually supportive sectors into a system, multidisciplinary in the most reasonable way on the basis of maintaining identity and prestige. Multidisciplinary does not mean that we do everything that others do. We should not deviate from our main goals and missions. The identity and brand of the University need to continue and promote in the new organizational model", said Minister Nguyen Kim Son.
Currently, the National Economics University has 88 majors at the undergraduate level and 70 majors at the postgraduate level. Every year, the school trains more than 40,000 students; providing high-quality human resources, including experts, managers and scientists, serving the socio-economic development from the central to local levels, as well as meeting the needs of the domestic and foreign business community.
