Three days after knowing the official high school graduation exam results, Dinh Thi Xuyen in Phu Cuong commune, Tan Lac district (a student at Muong Bi high school, Hoa Binh province) continued to help her mother sell corn, potatoes, grilled eggs, and bamboo rice on the top of Da Trang pass.

Joy was evident on the face of a female Muong ethnic student when she learned that she had scored 3 perfect scores in history, geography and civics in the 2024 high school graduation exam.

Xuyen's mother - Ms. Bui Thi O - was also extremely happy when she heard the news that her daughter got a high score. Everyone who heard the news came to congratulate her, making Xuyen and her mother laugh non-stop these past few days.

Ms. O shared that her family lives in a poor rural area of ​​Tan Lac district, so they have been near-poor for many years. Two years ago, the family escaped poverty. Her husband works far away, and she stays home alone, working hard day and night on the fields, raising livestock, and selling goods to raise her two children.

"Xuyen is the eldest child, my second daughter will be in 7th grade next year. Their father works in Hanoi and only comes home occasionally. Knowing the difficult family situation, Xuyen has had a sense of independence since she was little. From helping her parents with housework and taking care of her younger siblings to studying, she takes care of everything herself," Ms. O confided.

Her house is 15km away from school and she cannot afford a bicycle, so every day Xuyen has to hitchhike to get to class. After school, she returns home to help her mother with chores such as herding buffalo, cutting grass, harvesting rice, and gardening. Then, she goes to the shop to help her mother sell to customers.

Not a day of extra classes

Her family did not have the means, so Xuyen always wanted to grow up and work to earn money to help her parents. She thought that only by studying really hard could she succeed and not let down her parents who had worked hard to raise her and send her to school for the past 12 years.

Because of that, the petite girl always tries to excel in her studies. Besides class hours, during recess or free time at school, she goes to the library to find books to study.

Xuyen also created an online group with her classmates and other excellent students of the school to regularly exchange exercises and study methods. The special thing about this female student who got 3 scores of 10 that many people admire is that she does not go to extra classes at all.

The only female student in Hoa Binh province to score 3 perfect scores shared that, in addition to the time spent in class taught by teachers, she tries to grasp the basic knowledge in textbooks and do extra exercises assigned by teachers.

"Before the graduation exam, I spent a month reviewing the questions and asking my teachers to correct my work. I was very surprised and did not think I would get perfect scores in the three subjects. I am very happy and will try harder to not let my parents and teachers down," said Xuyen.

Dream of becoming a teacher

Sharing about her excellent student, Ms. Tran Thi Thuy, homeroom teacher of class 12A1, said: "Xuyen's family is in difficult circumstances, but that does not make her feel inferior or self-conscious. Xuyen studies well in all subjects, is very studious and studious. Her high school graduation exam results of 3 10s are well deserved because in the first mock graduation exam, she got the highest score in the school."

According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training of Hoa Binh province, in the 2024 high school graduation exam, the province had 12 candidates who achieved 2 scores of 10 and only candidate Dinh Thi Xuyen, Muong Bi High School (Tan Lac district) achieved 3 scores of 10 in the subjects: History, Geography and Civic Education.

History teacher Nguyen Thi Kim Hue said that Xuyen's high scores in all subjects were completely within her ability. "I was very surprised when my student got 3 perfect scores in history, geography and civics. She has a special talent for history. In addition to reading lessons before she grew up, Xuyen also often asked difficult questions for teachers to answer," Ms. Hue shared.

Although she is a role model for her classmates to follow in her studies, Xuyen is very modest. She confided: "Seeing my parents work very hard, I try to study hard, just hoping to have a stable job in the future to be able to help my family."

Revealing her future plans, the Muong female student said: "My dream is to become a teacher in the future. That is the biggest motivation that helps me to study hard and get good results."
