Accident "fell from the sky"
Meeting Mr. Thanh, father of Ms. Hoang Minh Ly (29 years old, working at K Hospital), on the morning of May 10 at Hanoi Medical University Hospital, the man in his fifties could not hide his fatigue after 20 days of disaster befalling his family.
Mr. Thanh shared that on the evening of April 20, his daughter had an accident while drinking coffee with friends on Thai Ha Street (Dong Da, Hanoi). That day, there was a thunderstorm, and a large glass panel from the second floor collapsed. Many people were injured, but Ms. Ly was the most seriously injured.
Immediately, friends took Dr. Ly to Hanoi Medical University Hospital for emergency treatment in critical condition.
Mr. Thanh recalls that at nearly 10pm on April 20, while preparing to go to bed, he received a call from an unknown number.
"At that moment, I heard my daughter's voice saying: Dad, I'm seriously injured, I'm about to fall into a coma. Please arrange to go to Hanoi to help me. I thank you for giving birth to me and raising me."
At first, I thought he was joking, because it wasn't his phone number. But when he said his friends were taking him to Hanoi Medical University, my legs went weak. The whole family rushed to Hanoi," Mr. Thanh recalled.
The next morning, the whole family arrived at Hanoi Medical University Hospital, where Ly was in the emergency room, in a coma. Since the disaster struck, Mr. Thanh had been by his daughter's side.
"A few days after the emergency, my daughter was awake and able to communicate with her family, but she was still very tired. I stayed by her side, and my wife is still undergoing cancer treatment at K Hospital, so she only runs back and forth when needed. Every day I try to encourage my daughter and help her with physical therapy as instructed by the doctor. She is very strong, she has been strong since she was little and she is still strong now," Mr. Thanh shared.
Waiting for a miracle to come to the young doctor
Talking about his daughter, Mr. Thanh is proud that Ly is a good student and has been independent since she was very young. Because he is a soldier stationed at the border 200km away from home, Mr. Thanh rarely has the opportunity to go home. Ly and her younger brother are both taken care of by their mother.
After graduating from general medicine, Ly was determined to become a resident physician specializing in cancer and is currently working at K Hospital. Passing the residency exam is the dream of every doctor, Ly has overcome it, she still has many future plans, but now it may be difficult to realize.
"The accident happened, unfortunately it happened to my child, so I have to accept it and try. Now I just hope for a miracle to happen to my child," Mr. Thanh said.
Previously, Ly's mother was diagnosed with lymphoma - a form of blood cancer with a severe prognosis, and is currently being treated at K Hospital.
Mr. Thanh shared that his wife will soon be undergoing her next round of chemotherapy. Before the incident, Ly worked and took care of her mother. Now, everything depends on her son's colleagues.
The continuous incidents that happened made Ly's family even more difficult.
