Early morning of May 1, in the fields of Tang Thanh commune (Yen Thanh), households were actively transporting rice to dry before the storm arrived.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Nam in Hamlet 4, Tang Thanh Commune said: “Last night and today, my family rented a harvester to harvest 5 sao of spring rice and dried it at the commune's stadium, so now we don't have to worry about the rice falling due to storms. This year, the weather was favorable, so the average rice yield was 3.7-3.8 quintals/sao.
Mr. Dao Van Khai - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tang Thanh commune said: The whole commune has over 250 hectares of spring rice, the commune has directed farmers to strictly implement the planting schedule of the district, introducing high-quality rice varieties into the structure. Applying good scientific and technical measures, combining intensive investment according to each growth cycle of the rice plant. Thanks to that, this year the rice crop is evenly distributed, estimated at an average of 7.7 tons/ha.
After receiving information about storms in the coming days, on April 29, the commune immediately informed the people to take the initiative, and mobilized more than 6 combine harvesters to simultaneously harvest rice. The harvesters rolled along each field, and thanks to the solidified internal traffic system, agricultural vehicles could easily reach the field to transport rice. Up to this point, the whole commune has harvested 50/250 hectares of rice.
Mr. Le Van Hong - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Yen Thanh district added: This spring crop, Yen Thanh district planted 12,700 hectares of rice, with an estimated yield of over 7.5 tons/ha. The reason for the good harvest, in addition to this year's favorable weather, the district introduced into the structure of rice varieties with high productivity and output such as Huong Thom No. 1, Bac Thom No. 7, Bac Thom 9... hybrid varieties including Thai Xuyen 111, Phu Uu 978, sticky rice M97...
The district has done a good job of investigating, predicting, and forecasting right from the beginning of the season the types of pests that may arise, accurately on each type of crop, to advise and guide people to apply preventive measures and focus on effective control.
However, to ensure the results achieved, the district recommends that people in the communes, when the rice fields are ripe, quickly harvest to avoid damage caused by unusual weather such as strong winds and storms. Currently, Yen Thanh district has mobilized over 160 combine harvesters, harvesting simultaneously in the communes: Lien Thanh, Nam Thanh, Bac Thanh, Long Thanh, Xuan Thanh...
Up to this point, the district has harvested over 2,000/12,700 hectares. As the harvest progresses, people deploy machinery to prepare for the upcoming summer-autumn crop.
