Taking advantage of favorable weather, farmers in localities in the province are urgently implementing measures to restore flooded crop areas, rebuild broken crops and harvest the remaining summer-autumn rice areas to free up land for the winter crop.

From September 21 to 25, due to the impact of storm No. 4 and weather patterns causing heavy rain, 468 hectares of various vegetables in Thieu Hoa district were flooded. These days, in the fields of Thieu Tien, Thieu Duy, Thieu Thanh communes, Hau Hien town, Thieu Hoa town..., farmers are busy clearing the fields, replanting flooded areas and taking care of vegetables in time for the season.
Mr. Pham Van Viet in Hau Hien town (Thieu Hoa) said: "During the recent rain, my family's vegetable fields were flooded. After the water receded, my family mobilized human resources to clean the fields, fertilize, and cultivate the soil to help the plants recover quickly."

In Thach Thanh district, after two consecutive floods in September 2024, thousands of hectares of crops were damaged. Specifically, in storm No. 3, the entire district had 979 hectares of rice, 1,079.6 hectares of sugarcane, 87 hectares of corn and other vegetables flooded. Storm No. 4 and floods also flooded 273.5 hectares of rice, 22.96 hectares of vegetables, 456.98 hectares of annual crops...
Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thach Thanh district, Bui Thanh Hieu, said: After the water receded, the unit coordinated with communes and towns to mobilize people to focus on harvesting 80% or more of ripe rice according to the motto "green house is better than ripe field" to free up land for winter crops. By October 4, the whole district had harvested 3,674.5 hectares/4,528.7 hectares of rice. Some areas of rice were completely damaged and could not be harvested, so people were freeing up land for winter crops. For flooded sugarcane and other crops, the agricultural sector instructed people to create drainage ditches, wash leaves to clean mud and soil, and implement technical measures for care and recovery... At the same time, it is recommended that people stick to the fields, closely monitor the emergence of pests to have timely and effective prevention measures.

From the beginning of September 2024 until now, Thanh Hoa province has been continuously affected by 2 storms (storms No. 3 and No. 4) and many heavy rains and prolonged floods causing flooding and breaking of thousands of hectares of crops of all kinds. Accordingly, storm No. 3 and the floods after the storm damaged 2,446 hectares of rice, 639 hectares of flowers and vegetables, 1,191 hectares of annual crops, 14.5 hectares of fruit trees... During storm No. 4 and the rain and floods from September 17 to 24, the whole province had 760 hectares of rice, 2,036 hectares of flowers and vegetables, 1,255 hectares of annual crops, and 67 hectares of fruit trees flooded and damaged.
To minimize the impact caused by weather, protect the results of the 2024 winter-spring crop and deploy the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, by October 4, farmers in the province had mobilized means and human resources to harvest 133,945.3 hectares/154,629.42 hectares of winter-spring crops, reaching 86.61% of the plan. Of which, the total rice area harvested in the province was 103,282.3 hectares/112,204.95 hectares, reaching 92.05% of the plan. Some districts have basically completed harvesting the winter-spring crop area, such as: Yen Dinh, Dong Son, Nong Cong, Quang Xuong, Trieu Son...

With the motto "morning rice, afternoon winter crops", by October 4, the whole province had planted 15,178ha of winter crops out of 47,000ha of various crops, reaching 32.3% of the plan. Some districts have planted a fairly large area, such as: Yen Dinh 2,083ha, Tho Xuan 2,011ha, Nong Cong 1,427ha... mainly corn, chili, sweet potatoes, beans, peanuts...

Through inspection, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Dang Van Hiep said: Due to the impact of storm No. 3, storm No. 4 and rain and floods, the best planting time for winter crops such as corn, soybeans, chili... has basically passed. Although there are difficulties in the early stages of winter crop production, this is also an opportunity to expand the area of short-term vegetable crops to meet the needs of the province and the northern provinces that have suffered heavy losses in agricultural production.
