Taking advantage of favorable weather, farmers in Ha Tinh are simultaneously harvesting summer-autumn rice. The atmosphere of the harvest season and the Independence Day seems to have become more bustling and exciting throughout the countryside.
From early morning, farmers in Thach Ha district temporarily put aside their holidays and went to the fields. Throughout communes such as Tuong Son, Thach Tri, Thach Van, Thach Hoi… the sound of harvesters resounded from early morning to late evening.
Ms. Tran Thi Hanh (Bac Binh village, Tuong Son commune, Thach Ha) said: “Following the weather forecast, taking advantage of the sunny holidays, we all went to the fields to harvest rice. This season, “a day early is better than nothing”. The main crop is Khang Dan 18 to sell to noodle and cake making establishments. My family has 2 hectares, the expected yield is 2.5 quintals/sao, this summer-autumn crop is considered a success”.
Loc Ha planted later so it has not harvested much. This summer-autumn crop is happening so quickly that farmers do not think about holidays and even eat right in the field to catch up with the schedule.
Many localities have proactively reviewed the number of harvesters in the area and have reasonable coordination plans to ensure the fastest summer-autumn rice harvest.
In Can Loc district, the bustling atmosphere of the harvest season is also present everywhere. After a hard working season, people are just waiting for the day when the rice is ripe in the fields. People are mobilizing human resources and arranging machinery to quickly harvest the ripe rice fields.
According to Phan Cao Ky, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Loc district: In the summer-autumn crop of 2023, the district planted nearly 9,000 hectares of rice, of which more than 3,200 hectares were for concentrated production; using key varieties such as Nep 98, Ha Phat 3, Bac Thinh, Huong Binh... The area of harvested rice continuously increased rapidly in the first days of September thanks to the uniform, concentrated structure of the variety and favorable weather.
Ms. Phan Thi Thuong (Luong Hoi village, Khanh Vinh Yen commune, Can Loc) said: "This production area has been converted, so the summer-autumn crop is mainly Nep 98, which is convenient for care and harvesting. The machines are running busily, and the harvest will be finished in no time. I just hope that the weather will give us a few more sunny days so that farmers can dry the rice completely."
Currently, more than 150 harvesters are operating day and night; the communes of Vuong Loc, Khanh Vinh Yen, Tung Loc, Dong Loc... are the leading localities in terms of harvested area. It is expected that the average yield of the whole district will reach 53.48 quintals/ha (in the summer-autumn crop of 2022, the rice yield of the whole district will reach 53.31 quintals/ha).
Traders have also begun mobilizing manpower and vehicles to purchase rice from farmers in Can Loc district. Farmers expect high rice prices because rice export is showing positive signs.
Thanks to the structure of short-term rice varieties and simultaneous planting, the “flood-flooded” rice areas of Duc Tho district have been quickly harvested with the motto “greener at home than ripe in the fields”. According to farmers, in the current sunny weather conditions, in just a few days, this rice area will basically be harvested, safe before the rainy and stormy season.
Mr. Nguyen Tri Ha - Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) said: "The Provincial People's Committee has just signed and issued a telegram on focusing on quickly harvesting the 2023 summer-autumn rice crop. Accordingly, from August 31 to September 4, the clouds will change, there will be little rain, sunny days, and high daytime temperatures, which is favorable for quickly harvesting summer-autumn rice and avoiding natural disasters."
Therefore, localities need to implement the motto "green house is better than ripe field", harvest rice as it ripens, striving to basically complete the harvest before September 15.
