People's Artist Tran Nhuong

People's Artist Tran Nhuong is one of the veteran directors and actors of Northern theater and cinema.

Throughout his acting career, many directors trusted him with roles of sinister, scheming, and beauty-loving personalities in VTV dramas: When the birds return, The mysterious will, Provincial President, The judge, Girls in the city...

Tran Nhuong's acting was so successful that when the audience saw him appear in the movie, they immediately thought of a villain, a corrupt or deceitful leader with moral degradation...

People's Artist Tran Nhuong shared that his life was also affected quite a bit when he played a villain. He said that he was very embarrassed one time when he and his ex-wife went to Thai Nguyen. As soon as he sat down at a coffee shop, a few women rushed out and pointed at the male artist: "You look like this but you always play bad roles." He felt embarrassed with his wife, but gradually she understood.

Then every time his wife went to the market, the vendors would drag her in and judge her: "He's always fooling around with women." Luckily, the artist's wife spoke up to explain: "No, that's just a movie" but was also dismissed: "Oh my god, if it's like that in movies, it's the same in real life."

However, different from the deceitful image in the movies, in real life, People's Artist Tran Nhuong is a gentle, kind and honest People's Police Colonel.

He shared with Dan Tri reporter: "I am very gullible. Because I am gullible, I am often deceived, sometimes losing hundreds of millions. Even though I have lived here for nearly ten years, everyone in the neighborhood knows that I have never spoken loudly or yelled at anyone. I am friendly and close to everyone. While in the movies, I am a boss of this or that.

When I go out on the street, I often get asked to take pictures with people from adults to children.

Although he is a retired People's Police Colonel, People's Artist Tran Nhuong is remembered by the audience for mostly playing villain roles on screen (Photo: Toan Vu).

Being familiar to the audience with his villainous roles, when returning to the screen with the role of Major General, Director of Provincial Police, who is upright, kind, straightforward, upright but also very emotional in the movie Storm , People's Artist Tran Nhuong faced a lot of pressure. He tried to make his own mark, making the audience forget his previous bad roles.

People's Artist Tran Nhuong has been retired for 5 years. At the age of over 70, he is still diligently performing, making movies... Unlike other people who usually think that retirement is about resting and relaxing, he works 10 times more than before.

He said he is the type of person who cannot help but work and stay alone. "Work helps me relieve my loneliness and makes me feel happier and more comfortable. As long as I have the strength, I will continue to act and work," said People's Artist Tran Nhuong.

After three failed marriages, People's Artist Tran Nhuong now lives alone. In addition to his time for work, when he returns to normal life, he likes to take care of his garden and plants. He used to raise 5-6 chickens, then birds, but found it hard so now he only grows plants. The veteran artist also has a small piece of land in Yen Bai. In his free time, he will go up to plant trees and raise Koi fish.

People's Artist Nguyen Hai

People's Artist Nguyen Hai was born in 1958. He is a Colonel of the Vietnam People's Police, former Deputy Head of the People's Police Drama Troupe. In more than 30 years of acting in television dramas, he has left his mark with the roles of gangsters and criminals.

Some impressive villain roles of People's Artist Nguyen Hai include the role of "murderer" Trinh Kha in Story of Nho village , General Director Le Thanh in the movie Chay an . Then there is the old man Can - the prostitution boss in the movie Quynh bup be or " Degenerate Colonel" Tran Nhu Tuat in Storm underground...

With a face that "exudes a bad quality without acting" and a natural acting style like breathing, People's Artist Nguyen Hai successfully portrayed the image of a "villain boss" on screen, making the audience afraid and hate him bitterly.

People's Artist Nguyen Hai once confided that he didn't know if anyone would sympathize with his face because "its angles and edges are always mixed up." Therefore, it was very difficult for directors to assign him a positive role. Although he had accepted decent police roles, later on, the male artist's roles also changed.

"Many people say that whenever they see my face, they think of a villain, robber, murderer, fraudster, corrupt person... People's Artist Tran Nhuong - my former boss said: "Your face is not acting", People's Artist Nguyen Hai shared with Dan Tri reporter.

When it comes to the villainous roles of People's Artist Nguyen Hai, Trinh Kha in The Story of Nong Village (aired in 1997) is certainly the character that haunts and leaves an impression on the audience. Nguyen Hai himself admitted that this is the character that impressed him the most in his filmography.

It is said that Trinh Kha was haunted by his evil, scheming and cruel nature. He was so evil that Trinh Kha ordered the corrupt youth in the village to kill two young men from the same district who came to the village to buy fish and then brought them to the communal house yard.

Trinh Kha is a cold-blooded intellectual hooligan - a university professor who, after getting involved in some ordinary affairs, was disciplined and returned to his hometown. This character disrupted the security of his hometown, violated the law and was sentenced to death.

People's Artist Nguyen Hai said: "The role of Trinh Kha that day was said by People's Artist Trong Khoi, General Secretary of the Vietnam Theater Association: "This role alone deserves to be recognized as a famous artist and have your name recorded in the art world".

And my teacher, Meritorious Teacher Hoang Su - Vice Principal of the School of Theater and Cinema also said something that I still remember: "Hai! It will probably take a long time for you to overcome the shadow of Trinh Kha in the movie Story of Nho village ".

Successful with a series of villain roles, but this also brings People's Artist Nguyen Hai many troubles or "half-crying, half-laughing" stories in life.

He said that he had made his children suffer many disadvantages. When they went to school, they were teased by their friends as "children of criminals" and were not allowed to sit at the same table, especially when the movie Story of Nho village was broadcast.

"When my daughter was little, she watched her father act in a movie and whenever she saw him, she hid behind the sofa. When she ate, she sat next to her father and listened to everything I said without saying a word. I knew she was afraid of me, so I became closer to her and spent more time helping her understand me better... Later, when they grew up, they gradually understood and loved their father," said Nguyen Hai.

Playing the role of Trinh Kha, his father in the countryside watched the movie, saw his son playing the role of a farmer who became a hooligan intellectual and was very angry, asked someone in the countryside to go to Hanoi to tell him: "You didn't play all the decent roles, but you played a... bad guy, tell him not to show his face in the countryside again". Therefore, it was almost a year after the movie aired that he dared to return home.

With over 30 years in the profession and nearly 20 villain roles, Nguyen Hai is used to the audience's criticism.

Talking about the pain of being hated for playing a villain, he said, when filming the movie The Death of a Swan, one time, he and his wife went to Hom Market. A woman saw him, unconsciously held his bag and turned around to hide it inside.

"I looked at my wife. Honestly, I was less ashamed of my wife than of everyone around me. Everyone looked at me warily like they were looking at a criminal," he shared.

Or later, when the movie Quynh Doll was broadcast, one time, a young audience member called him: "Can, Can... I'm your fan". It was confusing, funny, and very cute.

"Gradually I realized that my "inciting" and making the audience hate me was also a success. So it's okay for people to call me "that guy", the male artist confided.

Often playing roles of people in and out of prison, in real life, People's Artist Nguyen Hai is considered by his brothers, friends, and colleagues to be an upright and gentle person, completely opposite to what he appears on screen.

People's Artist Nguyen Hai has retired, but he does not give himself a moment to rest. Currently, he is a lawyer of the Hanoi Bar Association, providing free legal advice, pursuing acting, freely traveling to the South and the North to make films.

The male artist said he will work until he is "brain dead". "As long as I am alive, I will devote myself, "receiving and giving without being for myself" so that when I leave this world, I will not have any regrets," Nguyen Hai told Dan Tri reporter.

In response to the question: "If you were to draw a self-portrait of Colonel - People's Artist Nguyen Hai, not Trinh Kha, Lao Can, or Tran Nhu Tuat, what would it be like?", the male artist replied: "I would like to let the public feel it.

On this point, I admit that I am not handsome, but just a romantic artist. I never like to show off, but I am always proud to be a Colonel of the People's Police, and my wife supports that."

Meritorious Artist Ho Phong

Along with People's Artist Tran Nhuong, People's Artist Nguyen Hai, Meritorious Artist Ho Phong (currently working at the People's Police Drama Theater) with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel is a name that cannot be ignored when mentioning villains or "bad guys" on the Vietnamese screen.

Meritorious Artist Ho Phong was born and raised in Hai Phong, in a family with a rich artistic tradition. His father is Meritorious Artist Ho Thap - former head of the Quang Ninh Drama Troupe, his youngest brother is Meritorious Artist Ho Phi Diep.

He made a special impression with his rugged, rough appearance, sharp eyes, and characteristic hoarse voice, suitable for the evil, thug roles in VTV TV series such as: Land and People, When the Birds Return, Candles in the Night, Secret of the Golden Triangle, Flavor of Love, Battle of Minds...

The actor himself admitted to Dan Tri reporter that his face and expressions are suitable for such types of characters. And the director will invite actors who are capable of fulfilling that role quickly and best.

The actor once shared: "I like villain roles. I am a police officer, a police actor, trained and studied a lot about police work, so I see many negative aspects of society.

The mindset of criminals is to hide all the bad things and show the good things to deceive others. The bad people always look like good people to carry out their actions.

Like other male artists, Ho Phong has encountered many ironic situations in real life related to his villainous roles in movies.

Recalling the memories of filming the movie "Flavors of Love", Ho Phong said that his friend in his hometown called and said: "I went from one end of the village to the other, everyone cursed old Tan. Everyone cursed."

He even received messages like: "This guy must be like that in real life to be so terribly evil in movies."

Hearing and reading those curses, the male artist was both happy and sad. He was happy because his performance left an impression, but too many curses would affect his parents and children.

"You guys can freely curse Mr. Tan's role, but don't drag Ho Phong out to curse. Because the role of Tan is fictional and Ho Phong is real," the actor affirmed.

Different from the image he often sees in movies, in real life, Ho Phong is a very open and humorous person.

He recalled one time when he went to a party, an old man ran up and beat him up, saying: "Damn this guy! Why is the guy you play in the movie so hateful, but in real life you are so gentle and simple?"

Every time he performed with his unit, some leaders asked: "You were hired, right?". He said, the audience did not believe and did not think he was a People's Police Lieutenant Colonel in real life.

Ho Phong also considers himself a family man. The actor confided: "In real life, I find myself very different from what I see in the movies. I am very good and well-behaved, I don't gamble or drink, and I am especially loyal and loving to my wife and children."
