After 12 years of voluntary blood donation to save lives, Nguyen Cu Em (42 years old, Nghia Ky commune, Tu Nghia district, Quang Ngai province) owns a huge "fortune" with nearly 100 voluntary blood donation certificates.
Anh Em works as a security guard for a hotel, so he spends more time at work than at home. Many times, while on duty, he heard that someone urgently needed blood, so he asked the hotel owner for permission and went to donate blood right away.
Looking back on his journey, Mr. Em estimates that he donates blood and platelets 8-10 times a year on average. He keeps his blood donation certificate at both his workplace and home.
In recent days, when he saw members of blood bank clubs living in provinces and cities across the country forming the national flag from blood donation certificates, Em also meticulously followed suit.
“Seeing me fold the blood donation certificate into the shape of the national flag, my colleagues asked me and were surprised to know that I had donated blood so many times. Some even asked me how I did it. I really hope that more and more people will understand the meaning of donating blood to save lives and actively participate,” Em confided.
Having donated blood to save lives more than 40 times, Deputy Chief of Police of Tinh Khe Commune (Quang Ngai City) - Major Duong Kim Tuan also owns a national flag made from his own blood donation certificates.
“With the belief that “a drop of blood given – a life saved”, I always try to donate blood whenever possible. The greatest happiness for voluntary blood donors like me is that after saving lives, we continue to spread the spirit of blood donation to save lives to the relatives of those patients” – Major Tuan shared.
With 15 years of voluntary blood donation to save lives, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Tuan Anh (Criminal Technique Team, Quang Ngai City Police) is also the owner of dozens of bright red certificates.
During the September 2nd holiday, Lieutenant Tuan used 30 blood donation certificates to form the shape of a national flag fish.
“For me, it is a job that comes from the heart, shows patriotism, national pride and contributes to spreading the act of donating blood to save lives to many people” - Senior Lieutenant Anh expressed.
In recent years, the voluntary blood donation movement in Quang Ngai has had remarkable changes, especially since Quang Ngai responded to the program "Red Journey - Connecting Vietnamese blood".
Up to now, the voluntary blood donation movement has achieved many important results, contributing practically to the work of caring for and protecting people's health.
Specifically, in 2012, Quang Ngai received 6,529 units of blood, meeting 93.7% of the emergency and treatment blood needs at the Provincial General Hospital.
