These are the first items of the Long Thanh International Airport Construction Investment Project to be completed.

Speed up construction of runway number 1

According to Decision No. 692/QD-TTg dated March 29, 2025 approving the adjustment of the Long Thanh Airport Construction Investment Project Phase 1, with a capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year. The project will invest in the construction of a passenger terminal and synchronous auxiliary items, 2 runways (No. 1 and No. 3), an air traffic control tower and other related works.

Long Thanh Airport's runway No. 1 is 4km long and 70m wide, capable of receiving the most advanced aircraft today. Package 4.6, construction, equipment installation and design of construction drawings for runways, taxiways, aircraft parking lots (cargo terminal, hangar, isolation) and other works, will start construction in August 2023. According to the original plan, this package will be completed in July 2025. However, with the goal of speeding up the progress and shortening the construction time, the schedule of Long Thanh Airport's runway No. 1 has been adjusted and will be completed by the end of April.

Route T1 is 4.3km long, designed with a speed of 80km/h according to urban main road standards. This route extends from the west of Long Thanh Airport to National Highway 51, from there, connecting with provincial routes 25B, 25C, Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, Ring Road 3 - Ho Chi Minh City to connect Long Thanh Airport with Ho Chi Minh City and provinces in the southern region.

According to the Aviation Construction Corporation (ACC), the leading unit of the consortium implementing package 4.6, to speed up progress and shorten construction time, the consortium has increased human resources and machinery to serve the construction work. Along with that, the consortium has negotiated with partners to speed up the supply of equipment and materials for the precision landing support system for runway No. 1.

As of mid-March, for the No. 1 runway project, the joint venture contractor has completed the foundation and deployed the construction of the M350/45 cement concrete surface layer, reaching nearly 98%.

In March, the joint venture contractor deployed the installation of a precision landing support system for runway 1. This system includes a signal light system and equipment providing information about the runway centerline to help aircraft land accurately.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Tien, ACC, Commander of the contractor consortium for package 4.6, said that the installation of the precision landing support system for runway 1 of Long Thanh Airport has been basically completed. The contractor consortium is currently connecting the power to the signal light system to ensure the plan to put it into technical operation before April 30, 2025.

Shorten 3 months of construction of T1 route

To serve traffic connection, Long Thanh Airport phase 1 plans to build 2 routes T1 and T2, connecting with traffic routes in the area.

The two traffic routes T1 and T2 are nearly 8km long and will start construction in July 2023. According to the original plan, both routes will be completed by the end of 2025. However, with the adjustment of the basic target of early completion of the Long Thanh Airport Project Phase 1, the construction package of the two connecting traffic routes has been adjusted to complete on schedule.

According to the joint venture contractor, to date, the T1 route has completed more than 90% of the work. The contractor has basically completed the bridges, is urgently paving the asphalt, planting trees, and installing the lighting system in mid-April, with the technical opening expected on April 30, 2025. At the same time, the acceptance test will be completed and put into use in September 2025, 3 months shorter than the contract.

Route T2 has completed over 65% of the work volume, units are speeding up the grading of crushed stone and concrete, starting asphalt paving in June this year, and completing in early September 2025.

Mr. Le Tien Dung, Deputy Director of the Long Thanh Airport Traffic Connection Management Board, said that the joint venture contractor is currently mobilizing nearly 1,000 workers and machinery to work day and night on the connecting traffic system.
