Viet Tri Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company has 334 female employees (accounting for 65.2% of the total number of officers and workers of the Company). Of these, 298 are environmental sanitation workers. They are beautiful flowers with the silent work of day and night preserving and beautifying the streets of Viet Tri city to be clean and beautiful.
So that every morning when waking up, everyone can breathe in the fresh air, leisurely walk through the clean, airy streets or the hot summer afternoon seems to be cooled down when walking through the rows of green trees, then on holidays and Tet holidays, they can see the city shining with flags and flowers. All of those green-clean-beautiful street pictures are created by the hands of the female workers of Viet Tri Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company.

Silent dedication
When the city is deep in sleep, it is also the time when female sanitation workers start to spread out to the streets to clean and sanitize. After a long day of hustle and bustle, big and small events, and daily activities of people and shops, the city has left a huge amount of garbage on the streets, waiting for the hands of female sanitation workers to clean up.
Quietly, diligently, with only the sound of bamboo brooms and the rustling wind to accompany them. One by one, each road and street, with the footsteps of the women passing by, is returned to cleanliness and spaciousness. After the night shift ends, a new day begins with another shift of the women to keep the streets green, clean and beautiful. Amidst the hustle and bustle, the cleaners diligently “stick to the road” day and night.
Being careful and responsible, after more than 20 years of working as a cleaner, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen has always been diligent and made efforts to complete the assigned work well. She shared: “The many years I have been working on the streets are the many years I have witnessed the changes. The streets are beautiful and the alleys are clear, so sanitation workers like me also want to preserve that landscape not only for the city's residents but also as a beautiful image for tourists coming to the Land of Ancestors. The job of collecting garbage is ingrained in my blood and flesh. Wherever I go, as a professional habit, I always observe the surrounding environment, see which places are clean and which places are dirty, and from there, I learn from experience for my work.”
The work of environmental sanitation workers is unique, usually done at night, from 6pm until all the trash is gone (about 2-3pm, sometimes even 4-5am the next day). During holidays, Tet, or on weekends, when people are resting and having fun, environmental workers have to work overtime, increase their hours, and stick to the area to work. Not to mention the rain, when the trash mixes with the heavy rainwater, the hot sun, the suffocating heat; and the dangers when working on roads with high traffic density... But above all, these women always strive to complete the assigned work as best as possible, including many advanced examples that have been commended, typically Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen was awarded the title "Golden Broom" by the Vietnam Urban Environment and Industrial Zone Association...
Along with the female cleaners, 44 female workers in the tree department are also contributing every day and every hour to create and preserve the green color of the streets, adding more flowers to the city's holidays and Tet. If the typical working time of the cleaners is usually from night, the work of the tree department is somewhat "lighter" - as shared by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy.
She said: “My work starts from 6am to 10:30am, in the afternoon from 3pm to 6pm, mainly mowing grass, pruning trees, cutting carpets and taking care of the carpets, picking up trash on the carpets. Just like the environmental sanitation department, when there is a storm, the factory also has to concentrate on mobilizing workers to work, at that time there are no more “shifts”, even at midnight we have to go. Like the recent storm, although women are given priority, in order to promptly clean up and clear the roads with fallen trees, 100% of us women also work hard all night to complete the task as soon as possible.”

Noble profession
Having devoted her entire youth to environmental sanitation work, even though she is now a team leader, Ms. Tuyen does not rely on others, still goes to work early and comes home late, and completes the assigned work beyond expectations. “After more than 20 years of working, I am able to stay in this profession thanks to my family’s great encouragement. Due to the nature of my job, I rarely get to eat with my family. However, my husband and children always support, encourage and motivate me. Although it is hard, we always love and are attached to this job; we will persevere, whether it is rainy or sunny, even when there are storms, we still stick to the road” - Ms. Tuyen confided.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy has been working in the green tree department for nearly 10 years. Sharing about her work, Ms. Thuy smiled: "Compared to the women working in the cleaning department, our work is somehow less difficult because we only have to work during the day." But in reality, for workers in the green tree department, because they have to work directly outdoors, the workload is large, so whether it is sunny or rainy, everyone must ensure that they complete their tasks. Especially during holidays and Tet, they often have to work overtime.
Ms. Thuy shared: “Almost every year, the women in the group work until the afternoon of the 30th of Tet. Many times, the flowers and ornamental plants have been decorated, but when there is wind or heavy rain, the whole unit has to go and fix the places that have been pushed or knocked over. The work is hard, often having to “stick to the road”, being exposed to pollution, dust..., if you don’t love the job, it’s hard to stay. For me, after carrying out the task, seeing the streets dressed in new clothes of ornamental plants and flowers, I feel a small joy.”
Currently the Team Leader of Team 5 where Ms. Thuy is working, Mr. Ta Thanh Nam said: “We sympathize with the women working in the Team. There is not much time for family, especially on holidays, Tet, and stormy times... Overcoming those difficulties and obstacles, all female workers in the Team always try to complete their tasks well with an admirable sense of responsibility.”
Female sanitation workers are diligent in their work.
Comrade Ha Ngoc Kien - Deputy General Director, Chairman of the Trade Union of Viet Tri Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company said: "With the number of female employees accounting for more than 65% of the total number of officers, employees, and workers of the Company, they are divided into many departments such as street sweepers, garbage transporters, drivers of all kinds, tree care and pruning workers, cemetery managers, electricity managers... Understanding the hardships of the profession, over the years, the Company has always paid attention to taking care of the material and spiritual lives of workers in general and female employees in particular. Every year, on holidays and Tet, the Company gives gifts, visits when sick, and supports those in difficult circumstances and work-related accidents."
Currently, the average income of the Company's employees is 8.5 million VND/person/month. The quality of the Company's services is also increasingly improved, the streets are kept bright, green, clean, beautiful, and recognized by the people. The spiritual life of the employees is also concerned through the establishment and maintenance of the activities of the clubs: badminton club, volleyball club, shuffledance club, football club... with a total of more than 300 officers and employees of the Company participating.
The female workers of Viet Tri Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company are like hard-working bees, not afraid of wind, rain, heat, winter or summer, always trying to complete their work well. If asked about their dreams, perhaps all the environmental sanitation workers would answer that they want to be healthy to continue their career and above all, they wish that people would be more conscious in maintaining public hygiene, not littering indiscriminately so that they can work less hard, helping the city stay clean and beautiful.
