Viet Tri Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company has 334 female employees (accounting for 65.2% of the company's total staff and workers). Of these, 298 are environmental sanitation workers. They are like beautiful flowers, silently working day and night to maintain and beautify the streets of Viet Tri city.
Every morning, people wake up to breathe in the fresh air, stroll leisurely along clean, airy streets, or find relief from the sweltering summer heat as they walk past lush green trees, and during holidays and festivals, they can admire the city adorned with flags and flowers. All of this green, clean, and beautiful cityscape is created by the hands of the female workers of Viet Tri Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company.

Silent dedication
As the city sinks into slumber, female sanitation workers begin to spread out along the streets to clean and sanitize. After a long day of hustle and bustle, with events of all sizes and the daily activities of people and businesses, the city leaves behind enormous amounts of waste on the streets and roads, waiting for the hands of these female sanitation workers to clean it up.
Quietly, diligently, with only the sound of bamboo brooms and the rustling wind as their companions, these women clean every street and alleyway they walk on, restoring its cleanliness and freshness. After their night shift, another shift begins, ensuring the streets remain green, clean, and beautiful. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, these sanitation workers diligently "stick to the streets" day and night.
With her meticulous and responsible nature, after more than 20 years dedicated to sanitation work, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen always diligently strives to complete her assigned tasks well. She shared: “For all the years I’ve been working on the streets, I’ve witnessed the changes. The roads are beautiful, the alleys are clear, so sanitation workers like me want to maintain that landscape not only for the city’s residents but also as a beautiful image for tourists visiting the ancestral land. Garbage collection is ingrained in my blood; wherever I go, as a professional habit, I observe the surrounding environment, seeing which areas are clean and which are dirty, so that I can learn from it and improve my work.”
The work of sanitation workers is unique, often involving night shifts, from 6 PM until all the garbage is cleared (around 2-3 AM, sometimes even until 4-5 AM the next day). During holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), or weekends, when everyone else is resting and enjoying themselves, these sanitation workers have to work overtime, staying in their assigned areas to work. This is not to mention the heavy garbage mixing with rainwater, the suffocating heat rising from the sun, and the dangers of working on busy roads... Yet, overcoming all these challenges, these women always strive to do their best in their assigned tasks, with many exemplary individuals receiving awards, such as Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen, who was awarded the "Golden Broom" title by the Vietnam Urban and Industrial Zone Environmental Association.
Along with the female sanitation workers, 44 female workers in the landscaping department are also contributing their efforts day and night to creating and maintaining the greenery of the city's streets, adding colorful flowers during holidays and festivals. While sanitation workers typically work at night, the work of the landscaping department is somewhat "lighter"—as shared by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy.
She said: “My work starts from 6:00 AM to 10:30 AM, and in the afternoon from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, mainly mowing grass, trimming trees, cutting and maintaining lawns, and picking up trash on the lawns. Similar to environmental sanitation, when there are storms, the company has to mobilize a large number of workers; at that time, there are no shifts, we have to go out even in the middle of the night. During the recent storm, even though women were given priority, to promptly clear the roads of fallen trees, 100% of us women worked all night to complete the task as quickly as possible.”

A noble profession
Having dedicated her youth to environmental sanitation work, even though she is now a team leader, Ms. Tuyen doesn't become complacent. She still works long hours, exceeding her assigned tasks. "I've been involved in this job for over 20 years, and I've stayed thanks to the encouragement of my family. Due to the nature of the work, I rarely get to eat meals with my family. Even so, I always receive support, encouragement, and motivation from my husband and children. Although it's hard work, we always love and are committed to this job; we will persevere, rain or shine, even during storms, we will still stay on the road," Ms. Tuyen confided.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy has been working in the landscaping department for nearly 10 years. Sharing about her job, Ms. Thuy smiled and said, "Compared to the cleaning staff, our work is somewhat less strenuous because we only have to work during the day." However, in reality, for workers in the landscaping department, who work outdoors and handle a large workload, they must ensure their tasks are completed regardless of the weather. This is especially true during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), when overtime is often required.
Ms. Thuy shared: “Almost every year, the women in our team work until the afternoon of the 30th of Tet (Lunar New Year's Eve). Sometimes, even after the flowers and plants have been decorated, strong winds or heavy rain require the whole team to go and rearrange the damaged areas. The work is hard, constantly involving being on the streets, exposed to pollution and dust... If you didn't love the job, it would be difficult to persevere. For me, after completing my duties and seeing the streets adorned with new plants and flowers, a small joy wells up inside me.”
Currently the team leader of Team 5 where Ms. Thuy works, Mr. Ta Thanh Nam said: “We sympathize greatly with the women working in the team. They don't have much time for their families, especially during holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and times of storms... Overcoming these difficulties and obstacles, all the female workers in the team always strive to complete their tasks well with a very admirable sense of responsibility.”
These female sanitation workers diligently perform their duties.
Comrade Ha Ngoc Kien, Deputy General Director and Chairman of the Trade Union of Viet Tri Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company, said: “With female employees accounting for over 65% of the total staff, the company's workers are divided into many departments such as street sweepers, garbage transporters, drivers of various vehicles, tree care and pruning workers, cemetery managers, and electricity managers... Understanding the inherent hardships of the profession, over the years, the company has always paid attention to caring for the material and spiritual lives of its employees in general and female workers in particular. Every year, on holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), the company provides gifts, visits when sick, and support for those in difficult circumstances or who have suffered work-related accidents.”
Currently, the average income of the company's employees reaches 8.5 million VND/person/month. The quality of the company's services is also constantly improving, and the streets are kept bright, green, clean, and beautiful, earning the appreciation of the people. The spiritual life of the employees is also cared for through the establishment and maintenance of clubs such as: Badminton Club, Volleyball Club, Shuffledance Club, Football Club... with a total of more than 300 company staff and workers participating.
The female workers of Viet Tri Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company are like diligent bees, undeterred by wind, rain, heat, winter or summer, always striving to complete their work well. If asked about their dreams, perhaps all environmental sanitation workers would answer that they want good health to continue in their profession, and above all, they hope that people will be more conscious of maintaining public hygiene, not littering indiscriminately so that they can work less hard and help keep the city clean and beautiful.
