If you are planning to buy steel, this is the right time to make a decision as prices are stable and there are no signs of major fluctuations in the near future.

Durian price news on April 11, 2025

The Thai durian industry is facing major challenges as its main export market, China, tightens its quality control procedures. In particular, testing for residues of the dye Basic Yellow 2 (BY2) and cadmium has become a major barrier for exporters. This comes just before the main harvest season begins in May, causing unprecedented difficulties for the Thai durian industry.

According to the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, there are currently four laboratories qualified for testing and five more are awaiting approval from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC). However, if exporters cannot present a non-BY2 certificate from the authorized laboratories, the entire shipment will be denied entry.

BY2, a yellow organic compound, is classified as a probable carcinogen (group 2B) by the World Health Organization (WHO). As a result, China has changed its inspection policy from random to 100% inspection of imported shipments.

Thailand’s Agriculture Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat said the government is working with China to ease some inspection requirements. However, processing times have not been shortened, leading to the risk of goods being congested at border gates.

In this context, the price of premium durians such as RI6 Dep Chon and Thai A VIP durians is expected to remain high due to limited supply and superior quality. On the contrary, durians purchased in bulk may face downward pressure if export difficulties continue.

In general, durian prices on April 11, 2025 will be significantly affected by changes in China's inspection regulations, posing significant challenges for the Thai durian industry in the coming time.
