Promote and introduce Vietnamese products to foreign partners

The Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore recently had a working session with the Singapore Food Authority (SFA) on promoting the opening of the market for Vietnamese pork, chicken and poultry egg products in Singapore.

Singapore is currently only self-sufficient in about 10% of its total domestic food consumption needs, the remaining 90% is imported from abroad. Ensuring food security is one of Singapore's top important strategies.

Every year, Singapore imports about S$1.2 billion worth of seafood, of which Vietnam supplies about 9.7%; imports about S$460 million worth of rice, of which Vietnam supplies about 28.25%; and about more than S$1.28 billion worth of meat of all kinds.

However, fresh pork, chicken and poultry egg products from Vietnam are still not allowed to be officially exported to the Singapore market.

Mr. Damian Chan - General Director of SFA said that SFA went to Vietnam to conduct a survey in 2024. SFA highly appreciated the scale of livestock farming, technology level and machinery and equipment in poultry slaughter and processing lines, poultry egg production at enterprises in Vietnam such as QL, CP, MeatDeli, Ba Huan, San Ha...

“SFA assesses the potential for heat-processed chicken products from Vietnam to be considered for official import into Singapore soon, and hopes that poultry eggs and other meat products can meet future requirements. Singapore also hopes that Vietnam will coordinate more closely in technical exchanges between SFA and Vietnamese agencies, and hopes that the assessment process will be completed by the end of February 2025 with good results,” the SFA General Director shared.

Dr. Abdul Jalil - Assistant General Director of SFA also added that at the end of February 2025, SFA will conduct online assessments of a number of Vietnamese factories to complete the appraisal process according to Singapore's regulations.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh said that Vietnam is a country that produces many agricultural products of good quality and reasonable prices, especially fruits of all kinds, chicken meat and eggs. Vietnam is ready to cooperate to support Singapore in ensuring food security.

Vietnam also hopes that the Singapore Food Authority and Singaporean authorities will soon complete the assessment of Vietnamese businesses and farms so that Vietnam can officially export chicken meat and poultry eggs to the Singapore market.

In early February 2025, 15 Vietnamese import-export enterprises also attended the 36th Biofach 2025 International Organic Food Fair in Nuremberg, Germany. This is the world's leading fair for organic food.

Vietnamese enterprises participating in this year's fair have more diverse products. In addition to enterprises exporting traditional products such as: tea (Bac Ha company), coffee (FNB Vietnam, Godere Vietnam), spices, cinnamon, pepper (Manh Cuong group, Hanfimex group, Visimex Saigon), cashew nuts (Long Son) or coconut nectar products of Sokfarm, there are also natural products such as organic shampoo and shower gel of ONA Global...

Many Vietnamese products have achieved international certifications such as: JAS Control Union Certificattions, Bio Trade, USDA Organic, For Life, Global Gap...

Ms. Dang Thi Thanh Phuong - Vietnamese Trade Counselor in Germany said that in 2024, according to Vietnam's statistics, bilateral import-export turnover between Vietnam and Germany reached 11.7 billion USD; of which Vietnam exported 7.43 billion USD.

Vietnam is Germany's largest trading partner in ASEAN, with agricultural exports accounting for more than 12% of Vietnam's exports to Germany. However, organic products account for a very modest proportion of this export turnover.

“Vietnam is currently expanding its organic production and growing areas, while Germany is one of the leading countries in organic production in the world. This is a good opportunity for cooperation in the organic industry between the two sides,” said Ms. Dang Thi Thanh Phuong.

Previously, representatives of the Vietnam Trade Office in Germany also attended the world's leading fair for consumer goods, handicrafts, and interior decoration - Ambiente 2025. Nearly 60 Vietnamese enterprises, including: Minh Long, Kim Giang Handicraft, Quang Vinh Ceramic, Thang Long Craft, and Duc Thanh Wood, along with many other enterprises participated in this fair.

In addition, in the first months of the year, many Vietnamese enterprises have also introduced to foreign markets fashion products, traditional handicraft products made from bamboo, rattan, buffalo horn and agricultural products.

Along with agricultural products and garments, Vietnamese handicrafts are one of the main export items. Handicraft exports are aiming for a turnover of 4 billion USD this year. Meanwhile, agricultural exports in 2024 will also hit a record of 62.5 billion USD; textiles and garments over 37 billion USD.

These industries are expected to see many opportunities this year. In addition, new signals from the US market are also considered favorable for exports, aiming for total export turnover this year to grow by 10-12% compared to last year.
