After the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued regulations on secondary and high school admissions from 2025, a number of provinces and cities have informed about the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025.
The Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong province has just announced the third subject of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. English is chosen as the third subject.
Hai Duong is also the first province in the North to announce a third exam subject for grade 10.
The Department of Education and Training of Khanh Hoa, Quang Nam and Tien Giang provinces also plan to have English as the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam.
Previously, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City had official information about the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025.
Accordingly, the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City will take place with 3 subjects: Literature, Math and English.
According to the analysis of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the education program at the secondary level ensures that students have access to basic knowledge and issues and determine their own orientation, which is the basis for choosing appropriate subjects at high school. Therefore, the third exam subject must ensure that it does not affect the psychology, review process and subject selection at the high school level of students.
On the other hand, Foreign Language is also a compulsory subject, from grade 3 to grade 12. Other subjects such as Natural Sciences, History and Geography, Technology or Information Technology may not be chosen by students when entering grade 10. Randomly selecting the third subject leads to students having to take subjects that are not related to their career orientation, thereby causing psychological "shock" and stress before the exam.
Previously, the 10th grade exam was initiated by the locality, including the number of subjects. However, 2025 is the first year that students under the new general education program (2018 program) graduate. The Ministry of Education and Training believes that there should be common regulations to unify nationwide.
According to the regulations on secondary and high school admissions from 2025, for grade 10 admissions, localities can choose to conduct entrance exams, review admissions or combine them. If there is an entrance exam, the exam includes Math, Literature and a third subject (or a combined exam). This subject is selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores, but a subject cannot be selected for more than 3 consecutive years.
The third exam is announced after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 every year.
