This morning, the Vietnam Military History Museum in Hanoi officially opened its doors to welcome and serve visitors. This event is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army.
From early morning, many people and tourists from many provinces and cities were present at the Vietnam Military History Museum, eager to visit, admire the treasures, memorabilia and experience the exhibition space.
The Vietnam Military History Museum was newly invested in and built by the Ministry of National Defense in 2019, on an area of 386,600m2, with a modern design and many functions.
The museum's architecture is not simply a display of war history, but also creates a common space for visitors to interact and experience the struggle for national independence of the heroic Vietnam People's Army.
Pride mixed with emotion and excitement is the common feeling of many people, especially veterans who came to visit on the first day the museum opened to visitors.
Although he is 88 years old, his legs are no longer strong and he has to rely on the support of a walking stick, Mr. Nguyen Van Tien (living in My Dinh) and his grandson came to the museum early to visit and reminisce about old memories.
As a veteran who fought in the resistance war against America, Mr. Dao Van Phong (82 years old, living in Dai Mo ward, Nam Tu Liem district) arrived quite early by bicycle.
“When I stood in front of the war relics, I felt very meaningful and emotional. Many of my comrades had fallen, and I shed tears remembering them,” Mr. Phong shared.
The Vietnam Military History Museum is a particularly typical cultural work, a place to preserve and promote the quintessence of the nation's military cultural heritage, to meet the needs of research, study, sightseeing and cultural enjoyment of people of all walks of life domestically and internationally.
The highlight of the exhibition space is the National Treasure – MiG-21 aircraft number 4324 – bearing 14 red stars, symbolizing 14 feats of shooting down American aircraft from 1965 to 1967, recognized by the Prime Minister on January 14, 2015.
Next to the MiG-21 aircraft is a large screen introducing the peaceful country of Vietnam and the friendly, peaceful, and peace-loving Vietnamese people.
Holding a smartphone, Mr. Dao Chau (Hai Ba Trung district) recorded every moment and historical milestone when visiting and experiencing the space at the museum.
“Coming to the museum at 7am, I was really proud to see the artifacts, especially the National Treasures, on display here. That’s why I wanted to record each historical milestone, take a tour to experience each heroic memory of the Vietnamese people in general and the Vietnam People’s Army in particular,” said Mr. Chau.
Coming to the Vietnam Military History Museum, people and visitors can better understand the cultural and spiritual traditions, the heroic and resilient fighting spirit in the process of building and defending the country of the nation throughout thousands of years of history.
This is also an opportunity for the young generation, the future owners of the country, to understand the history and promote the precious traditions of the nation.
Nguyen Thi Duyen, a student from FPT College, shared her first visit to the Vietnam Military History Museum: “I was extremely impressed when I saw the artifacts on display at the museum. Many areas were recreated so realistically that I felt like I was going back to the past, understanding more clearly each period of building and defending the country of our ancestors.”
Mr. Hoang Van Hoi shared: “From 4am, I and a group of nearly 100 veterans from Hai Phong went to Hanoi. After visiting and being introduced to historical periods, I felt extremely proud. In particular, I was very impressed with the exhibition space of the Dien Bien Phu campaign.”
The museum has applied advanced technology such as 3D mapping, information lookup screens, photo media, automatic explanations and QR codes to look up information about artifacts. Along with that are more than 60 video clips, introducing campaigns, battles and historical figures, bringing visitors a completely new experience.
Currently, the Vietnam Military History Museum has completed phase 1 of the project, is open to welcome and serve visitors and offers free admission until the end of December. The museum looks forward to receiving feedback from the public to continue to improve the exhibition content.
