- Musician TRAN XUAN TIEN: This is a song I wrote to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. The main emotion when composing it was gratitude for the sacrifices of previous generations, especially mothers across the country, including mothers in Ho Chi Minh City, who endured and waited for their children to return on the day the country was reunified.
"The stars in mother's eyes" is an image symbolizing the pride, faith and hope that every mother, every Vietnamese person experiences in the sacred moment of April 30.
What do you expect from the songwriting campaign "The Country is Full of Joy" organized by the Lao Dong Newspaper?
- I hope this campaign will attract many quality works, reflecting the true spirit, historical values and sincere emotions of the Vietnamese people towards important milestones in the country's development journey. This is also an opportunity for songs written about Ho Chi Minh City to reach the public more closely, contributing to the building of a music industry rich in identity.
As a musician who has been closely associated with the student singing movement, when mentioning Ho Chi Minh City, what memory do you remember most?
- It was April 30, 1975. At that historic moment, I and the Saigon student art troupe went to the radio station - which was then deserted, with only a few security guards and technicians remaining. We went live on the radio, singing songs like "Liberating the South", "Going on the Road", "Tu Van"... to join in the joy of the reunification day.
According to your experience in composing, where should a musician find material to write a song based on a theme?
- To compose a song with a theme, I think the musician needs to live and feel deeply about the topic he intends to write about. The material can come from real experiences, from history, culture or from life stories.
It is important for the musician to listen to the voice of reality, from the heart and soul of the people so that the song can touch the emotions of the public. A good theme not only needs to have rich material but also needs to be expressed sincerely and delicately in music.
Having participated in judging many creative campaigns and music and dance festivals, what suggestions do you have for effective promotion after these campaigns?
- I think there needs to be a clear communication strategy, combining television, social media and live shows, to help the song reach the public quickly. Organizing performances and exchanges between musicians and audiences is also very important so that people can better understand the value of musical works, creating opportunities for the song to live forever.
