Summer-Autumn rice in the district fell and caused great damage that was difficult to recover. |
(VLO) Over the past week, due to the impact of thunderstorms, many areas of summer-autumn rice in Mang Thit district have fallen over, causing huge damage that is difficult to repair.
According to initial statistics, the total area of Summer-Autumn rice in the district was affected by heavy rain and strong winds, causing nearly 100 hectares of rice to fall, in which in some places the rice yield was affected by up to 60%.
The main rice variety that falls over is IR50404. The main reason for the rice falling over is because farmers do not fertilize in a balanced way, have too much nitrogen, and the soil is soft due to the water level being too deep, so the rice roots cannot take hold deep in the soil.
Most of the fallen rice fields were in the green and ripening stages, so the damage was very severe and difficult to overcome. The localities with the heaviest damage to the Summer-Autumn rice crop included Binh Phuoc, Nhon Phu, Tan Long, An Phuoc communes and Cai Nhum town.
Faced with this situation, the Mang Thit District People's Committee directed 12 communes and towns to implement timely remedial measures. For rice areas that are over 80% ripe, farmers are advised to harvest immediately to limit damage. For newly ripened rice areas, drainage should be organized for the rice fields.
In addition, the communes focused on directing farmers to proactively and quickly harvest the remaining rice fields to minimize damage to crops and contribute to protecting crop yields...
The house of Ms. Trinh Thi Muon (in Phu Thanh A hamlet, Nhon Phu commune) was severely damaged by a tornado. |
In recent days, thunderstorms have also damaged many households’ houses. Specifically, heavy rain and a tornado on the afternoon of July 17th caused the roofs of 8 houses in Nhon Phu and Binh Phuoc communes to be blown off and severely damaged.
Of these, 2 houses had their roofs completely blown off, 1 house had 95% of its roof blown off, 2 houses had less than 50% damage, and the remaining 4 houses had less than 30% damage.
Immediately after the disaster, the local authorities of the district and two communes sent forces to the scene to grasp the situation, support people in cleaning up and overcoming the consequences, and at the same time review and count the damage to have a direction to support families to repair their houses according to regulations.
Leaders of the District Party Committee and People's Committee visited, encouraged families and gave support to families whose houses were damaged by tornadoes in these two communes.
Ms. Nguyen Huynh Thu - Secretary of Mang Thit District Party Committee, directed and led the two communes of Nhon Phu and Binh Phuoc to continue mobilizing organizations, unions, police forces, and militia to participate in supporting the overcoming of consequences caused by natural disasters, so that families can soon stabilize their lives.
